Pattern: Compass (Size Child’s 8)
Chart from Pattern: Elephant Promenade
Yarn: Dream in Color Smooshy – Pinky and New York
The pattern calls for elephants and some trim above and below at the bottom, just before the ribbing. I’m not sure I’m going to do that on Addie’s sweater. I may. There are about 24 rows I would. I’m getting 8 rows to an inch in the colorwork, so that would be 3″ of colorwork.
So far, I’ve knit 3-1/2″ below the armhole. I will probably knit 10 or 11 inches before starting the ribbing, so, if I want to add the bottom elephants, I will need to knit about 7-1/2 or 8 inches under the armhole, then knit the elephants, then do the ribbing. Decisions, decisions! I think she would love the elephants at the bottom. I’ll probably wait til I’ve knitted the extra 4 or 4-1/2″ and then see how crowded it’s going to look with more elephants. I guess when you’re 6, there can never be too many elephants!
I’m going to put this one aside for a day or so and work on my So Faded.
I did send a picture of the elephant sweater to Nicole and she loves it and she wants one. My plan is to have Addie’s knitted all the way to the bottom, ribbing done, and bound off so I can try it on her when I see her next week. I’m not going to go to the trouble of steeking it and making sleeves if it doesn’t fit her. I think it will because I have her measurements and I accidentally brought one of her shirts back with me and I held it up to the sweater and I think everything is going to be fine.
I probably shouldn’t put the elephants away and work on anything else if I want to be sure it’s finished by this time next week but I get bored working on one thing. We’ll see . .
