Today is probably not the best example of a keto meal but we have both found that when we get to a spot where our weight is not moving, if we have a “feast” meal, things get going again. I’m sure (1) there’s an explanation for this or (2) the experts will say I’m crazy. I first noticed this when I would have a Dr. Pepper. I drink one maybe once every 7 to 10 days but at first, I would get to a spot where I was losing small fractions of a pound for days and then I would be really wanting a Dr. Pepper so I would drink one, and the next morning I would maybe have lost 1.2 pounds. That happened consistently but if I were to drink a Dr. Pepper every day, that is not what would happen. I would steadily start to gain weight.
Vince has been about the same weight for several days so I said “Let’s have a feast meal tonight!” Our feast will usually mean adding a bowl of pinto beans, or a small (very small) plate of pasta or even a few crackers. One . . not all three.
Tonight we had prime rib with horseradish cream, we split a baked potato with butter and sour cream (yogurt actually), steamed asparagus with Hollandaise sauce and we each had half of a fairly small tomato. It was healthy enough. The potato was definitely not keto but I think it’s the first potato we’ve had in three months . . and it was as good as I thought it would be.
Tomorrow, we’ll be back on strict keto but this is how it works for us. We’re having good results, and for the most part, we follow the rules.

OMG that is a beautiful looking meal. I almost stopped at the butcher for a prime rib to cook tomorrow but didn’t. Definitely next week!!!!

Thanks! That’s one that was in the freezer and has started to defrost the other night when I left the door open a bit so we put it in the fridge and cooked it today. It was good. When I cook them, I keep them pretty rare, cut the two outside pieces off for our meal, then tomorrow, I’ll reheat it and the two outside pieces will again get cut off to eat. That way, no part of it gets cooked too much and we have it medium rare as long as it lasts.

Looks delish! I’ve read about ppl who go on and off Keto to jump start the weight loss. I think you’re onto something! A person has to be really committed to get immediately back on and not keep on having carbs. You’re doing great going right back to being strict.

I find that too be very true! I call it shaking up my metabolism.
