I’ve mentioned it enough on here that everyone probably knows how much I dislike my fridge/freezer that’s in the house. When we first moved here, we were renting and the water in the faucets was horrible so we were using bottled water and buying ice. Even Speck wouldn’t drink the tap water. We bought a fridge that did not have ice/water on the door. It has the freezer on the bottom, French doors at the top. There is not a single thing I like about that fridge/freezer.
This morning I opened the freezer to get ice and while the drawer was out, the ice dumped. It all goes into the floor of the freezer and you cannot get to it unless you take everything out of the freezer and pull the drawer completely out . . which I cannot do and Vince was gone. I got a yardstick and tried scraping the ice out but that wouldn’t work so the freezer sat with the door/drawer partially open for an hour or so til Vince got home. Honestly, if I had been dressed, I would have gone somewhere and bought a new freezer/fridge. I hate to do that because we’re not going to be here probably more than a year or so but I do not like that refrigerator at all.
Then . . we have three big freezers. It’s actually the newest one that has never been good about sealing shut. We should have sent it back when we first got it but we didn’t. Vince has replaced the gasket on it and that didn’t solve the issue. I actually think the door is bent. I have to defrost that freezer two or three times for every once I defrost the other two.
Yesterday I opened it to get meat out for dinner tonight and . . it didn’t close. Vince went into the shop and there was water everywhere. So much of what was in there had defrosted and had to be thrown out. We turned it off, took out the things that were still frozen solid, put those in coolers, defrosted the freezer and put that stuff back in the freezer and threw out everything else.
Every day it seems, I tell Vince “I just want to move to a condo on the beach and go out to eat every night!” No garden, no critters, nothing to maintain. We both know that’s not a lifestyle for us but some days, it seems like a great idea.

My response was “yeah, right”. (Chuckle)
Have you ever even vacationed like that??

Yes, we have but it’s been 20+ years ago and every time, after about 4 days, we say “we couldn’t live like this”. We can’t but in theory it sounds good. Call someone when the air conditioner breaks. Call someone when the faucet drips. No garden, no shop, no driveway or fences to maintain. And, if we’re lucky . . no snakes, scorpions or black widow spiders.

I don’t cook much at all. I believe I have the pickiest eating husband alive! He can’t decide what he wants for dinner, he doesn’t like new recipes at all and the only veggies he will eat are corn and an occasional serving of green beans. Salad once in a blue moon is enough for him. We eat out a lot, or I fix things I like for me and he gets takeout. I would do well with an all inclusive vacation lifestyle!!

Well I hated my new ref so much put in garage and brought old one back in house. They just don’t make anything like they use too. Yesterday I got another example of this very thing. Took 18 year old riding mower in due to blade hitting some stupid mount. I ask guy about buying new one that the side shoot doesn’t stick out 15 feet( not really but to far for me I always run into things forgetting it out there so far ) . He said lady keep this one and just keep fixing it till you can’t they don’t make any good riding mowers anymore. Yep!!! Once again someone has told me this exact same thing about something I’ve had to be worked on. ( washer, dryer, stove, mower, etc. all breaking down this month). Our things are old but they are so much better than new ones I bought and regretted. Oh yes I sent new garage now ref. back 3 times and finally gave up. And yes the door doesn’t seal like it should. I use duck tape on it. Give that a try. Cheaper than ruining food. And driving yourself crazy worrying if shut good each night..Trust me good old DUCK to the rescue works all the time.

I’ve always wanted one with the freezer on the bottom, because I get into the freezer so seldom. LOL At least the ice didn’t go on the floor under the freezer drawer! I know it’s annoying not to have things work the way you’d like. I’d almost be willing to give up my freezer entirely. I think about it from time to time. Maybe buy a tiny one. My needs are different from yours, though! I understand about the condo on the beach – as long as it isn’t in the hurricane zone. =)
