It’s 6:00 p.m. I have to look back at my day and laugh. You can laugh too! I know if attention deficit drugs had been popular when I was growing up, I would have been the poster child.
This morning we had to go down to the Social Security office to submit the papers for the change in Medicare fees. Vince had already done it for his but now it was time to do it for mine. This was planned. I wasn’t sure what time we’d be home so I had taken brisket out for lunch. It was brisket we had smoked a while back, I had vacuum sealed it and it was in the freezer.
I’ve been working on my Tegna sweater and am on row 20 of about a 45 row lace section and I had high hopes of finishing that lace section today.
First Distraction:
While waiting for my turn at Social Security . . it wasn’t bad . . we got there before they opened and were the fifth people in line. They had two folks working and we were in and out of there in about 15 minutes but while we were there, my friend, Karen, sent me an email with a link to the Elephant Promenade. A portion of the pattern sales through April 30 will be donated to Save the Elephants.
This is such a cute pattern. I want one for myself.
Addie is so into elephants right now. She and I went to see Dumbo. Their end of the year program is a circus theme and I’m sure elephants are involved.
I want to make this sweater for Addie. Even though the pattern does not include child sizes, I bought the pattern. I will figure this out. I ordered yarn.
Second Distraction:
We went to Aldi after leaving the Social Security office. I was just wandering around. I didn’t need anything. I saw a package of ready to heat and eat carnitas. I love carnitas. I picked it up, and looked at it. Nope, I’m not much on prepared food so I bought a pork shoulder and came home and made carnitas and pinto beans (not on the diet but we still eat them at least once a week).
Obviously, my appetite isn’t back yet (that’s a small plate) but it was very good and we have plenty of leftovers.
Third Distraction:
I don’t really want to wait for new yarn to arrive . . especially since I ordered it from the UK. I went stash diving and came up with a plan. After reviewing other patterns for child sized sweaters, I came up with a plan. And, I started knitting.
Fourth Distraction:
This really isn’t a distraction . . I suppose. It’s more of a What are you thinking? kinda thing. But, it’s all going to haunt me the entire time I’m working on this project.
- The pattern isn’t written for a child size so I have to adapt.
- I’m going to steek to make it a cardigan . . which I’ve never done before.
- Somehow, in my head, I’m thinking I can have this done by the time I see her next . . which isn’t terribly long from now.
I have to look at myself and wonder if I’m totally crazy or, am I just doing what makes me happy? The truth is . . probably a little of both.

Steeping isn’t hard, but if you are concerned leave extra “Steeking stitches” so that you have room to machine stitch the fronts. Will you do a facing to cover the raw edge? It’s kind of neat to do.

Do what makes you happy!!

It may be a little bit of both, but it’s definitely making you happy! I’m glad you decided to make it. You will learn a lot and then be able to do the same with other patterns that come along that you want to make for her and they aren’t child sized. Are you going to make one for you, too? Are her elephants going to be a dark pink on light pink?

Are you going to put frogs on for the closures ? I did that when I crocheted cardigans for my granddaughters ..
Judy Laquidara says
I’ll use buttons and buttonholes.
