You probably thought you were done hearing about my So Faded project but . . no. I’m still struggling with colors. You wouldn’t believe if I told you how many skeins of yarn I’ve ordered or pulled from the stash trying to make this project work.
I don’t even know why I’m having such a hard time. When I was teaching quilting, I would tell people not to struggle with color. If you like it . . use it. I would give an example using a printed piece of fabric and say “If I handed 10 of you one yard of this fabric and asked you to make a quilt using this fabric and at least four additional fabrics, chances are everyone would have different fabrics and the quilts would all be quit different, but still beautiful.”
With quilts and with sweaters, with room decorations and with clothing, I often look at people and think “Really?” and I know they do the same with me.
You know what’s causing more problems for me with this project? The fact that if I use a skein out of my stash, I’m not going to have it any more. Yes . . you can tell me I’m crazy!
Here’s where I am now and I’m ready to add another color. My plan was to start with light, then use med/light, then medium, then med/dark, then dark. So many of the speckled type yarns are reading light and I want to move on to medium. I think maybe I’m looking for a reason to struggle! This is so unlike me. Maybe it’s the cold or allergies or whatever I have right now.
Here are some options and they’re mostly totally different than options I had planned.
I like this one but do I want the pink/orange up the front band and around my face? And, the two multicolored yarns are pretty similar in color/value.
This may be what I go with. My holdup is the navy will go up the front, and around the neck and be next to the white. This is Madelinetosh and I’m sure it will run terribly.
I like this but I don’t think the pink at the bottom is dark enough but . . seeing the picture gave me an idea.
Let me go see if this new idea might work . .

Any of them will look good, and yes you will still have any skein you use! It will just be in a sweater, as it was meant to be, fulfilling the measure of its creation instead of sitting on a shelf until the moths eat it. =)
