Yesterday when we came home from Joplin, I felt bad, took a nap, woke up feeling worse. Fever, chills, terribly sore throat, which I think is from sinus drainage. I felt too bad to even go to Walmart to buy meds but Chad and Nicole had several OTC drugs so I took some of those, hardly slept at all last night. Got up this morning, took more meds, gargled with salt water and went back to bed. I felt a little better when I got up about 9 a.m. but by 1 p.m., I was feeling awful again. I had managed to go to Walmart and get more meds, though they wouldn’t use my paper temporary driver’s license to sell me the controlled meds. I had a backup plan and was able to get them.
Had fever again so I took aspirins, went back to bed and slept 4 hours. Another sleepless night? Probably!
This is when I panic because my wonderful NOT affordable NOT insurance stops when I leave the State of Texas so I can’t even see a doctor here and use my insurance. I think I can do a video chat with Doctor on Demand and the “without insurance” cost is about $75 and then I’d have to pay out of my pocket for and Rx meds. Tell me again why this insurance is so great! At least my monthly premiums went from $1,013 to $964 per month in 2019 but it really is frustrating to pay that much and have it only work in Texas.
I’m supposed to go home this week but not til towards the end of the week so let’s hope I feel 200% better in the next few days and can make that long trip.
So . . that’s my whining, belly aching post for the day! 🙁

I would bet Addie can be a good nurse and she will make sure you have plenty of liquids to flush this from your system. Get well soon.
Teri says
Hope you are feeling lots better Judy. Take good care of yourself.
Tricia says
So sorry, Judy. Feeling sick is The Worst, especially when you are not at home.
Now, this might be a little conspiracy-theory-like, but…have you ever considered that your insurance is Vince’s way of making sure that you stay in Texas?! Just a thought…
Judy In MO says
Hope you are feeling better soon. Remember allergy season in Missouri? Could this be what’s wrong?

When I had ins. With my employer and traveled out of CA I had ins. coversge, the same coverage as within the state. I don’t understand why your ins. is different. I think you should file a complaint with the state ins. commissioner. At least youwon’t have this oroblem when you have Medicare.
Judy Laquidara says
There are lots of different kinds of policies and under the “Affordable Care Act”, which it is anything but affordable for many of us, we take the only policies we can get and this is the only coverage available in Texas through the “marketplace”. Yes, when we had employer provided coverage, we could go anywhere within the U.S. and have the same coverage. What we have is an HMO and you are only covered with their network of doctors and they are only in Texas. Outside Texas, it’s another network of doctors/hospitals.
There’s no reason to file a complaint. It is what it is. It’s the coverage I have and the only coverage I can get. This is exactly what the plan offers and they are not doing any more or less than we knew they would do.
Yes, I am counting the days til Medicare starts!
Eileen Wheeldon Eisner says
I’m so sorry you’re sick. That’s not supposed to happen on Addie time!!! Feel better soon!!
Judy Laquidara says
Yes! I should stay longer to make up for the days I haven’t feel so good!
Linda in NE says
Pretty useless insurance for sure….and at that price. Hope you feel better quickly. If you don’t feel up to making the whole trip back to TX in one shot you can always stop somewhere, get a night’s rest & continue the rest of the way the next day.
Judy Laquidara says
Or, I could just stay here til I feel better. 🙂

I have been taking apple cider vinegar for over a week now. I TBSP per day in juice. Seems to have helped me. I am also using some severe sinus syrup. Good luck with this! I thought maybe I had fever one day and took my temp and it was 94.2. No wonder I was freezing!!
dezertsuz says
How sad to be sick on your Addie vacation. I hope it is really just sinus and doesn’t hang on and on and on. I’m amazed anyone has the nerve to charge that much for insurance that doesn’t even work outside the state – or even if it did. You could just put $1000 in a savings account every month and do as well or better. =P
Dottie says
Wishing you a speedy recovery….AND, hope you feel better SOON!
Sherry in NC says
So sorry that you’re not feeling well. Hope you get better soon.

Fast healing!

Alka-Seltzer night time cold medicine is the best I have used when having sinus problems. Best night’s sleep and the antihistamine works great and the analgesic makes you feel so much better. I use half dose since I take B/P med. Advil has a sinus & allergy med that works good. Hope you are feeling better soon. As far as seeing dr. goes some of the Walmarts have a clinic, usually cost about $59.00 and so does CVS.
