When I was here in October, I asked Addie if she would like to go to the library. She said “NO! You have to be quiet in there!” OK . . at least she knew being quiet was a hard thing for her.
About three days a week, she brings home a book from school and reads it to us.
I asked her if she would like to go to the library, get a library card and check out some books. She was so excited . . now that she can read.
I called the library to see what the requirements were for getting a library card. Nicole or Chad (residents of the city) had to go do it so when Nicole got home from work, we went to the library and got Addie a library card and she checked out a couple of books. Two books on the first visit but after that, she can check out up to 10 books each visit.
She’s read one of them and started the other one so I told her we could go by the library tomorrow or Monday; return the first two and get more books. I’m so glad she’s happy about reading!

I remember when I was a kid the bookmobile would park on our corner every two weeks. The bookmobile rule was 6 books at a time. I was almost always finished with my six book a day or two before it came back – I always tried to time it so I finished the 6th book the night before.

The bookmobile came to our grade school. It was so fun to be responsible for that little library card and be able to check out book. I still have my original card. A real treasure.

Wow – when I first saw that pic of Addie, I immediately saw Nicole in her face & eyes. Do you have pictures of Nicole when she was young to see how close they are in looks at the age.
I was the kid who had a light and a book under the covers. Now, I go in spurts on reading. Give me a good book, some tea, and I will sit reading until it’s dark.
At my age, I enjoy using the kindle for reading. But at Addie’s age, the physical book is so important.

Those books will take her to places she never dreamed of! They also teach you to use your imagination and to visualize what is going on. Without books we would be a very bad world!

I remember my mom used to take me to the library every Saturday during the summer. I’d get several books every week.

It’s wonderful that Addie loves to read! I loved to read as a child, the librarian at school couldn’t keep me in books. Our school teacher granddaughter has two little ones, an almost three year old and a nineteen month old. They do not have “screens” of any kind and aren’t allowed to watch TV except on Saturday morning for one hour. Katie and her husband Michael read to the kids all the time–I hope it fosters a love of reading into those two.
