Parental Controls Needed

Oh, my . . last night I laughed until I cried.

Nicole’s dad called and she went in the back to talk to him. She had been knitting using her Fire tablet. It’s fairly new and has Alexa on it. Addie said “Granny, is this your tablet or mom’s?” I said “It isn’t mine!” She said “I know how to tell . . ” and she started saying “Alexa” and asking her all kinds of stuff.

Then, she said “Alexa, play Baby Shark”. Alexa said “I can add unlimited music to your account free for 30 days and after that you will be charged . . and she went on.” Then she said “Would you like to do this?” and I was saying “NO!!” but Addie said “Yes!” I said “Addie .. you are going to be in so much trouble because your dad is going to be charged for that!

She started saying:

Alexa! No!
Alexa! Take it back!
Alexa! I was supposed to say no and I said yes!
Alexa! I’m going to get in trouble.
Alexa! Please take off whatever you just said you were doing!

She was in a panic and I was laughing so hard.

Nicole came back in the room, I told her what happened and she got online and “fixed” it. I suggested she add some kind of parental control or password so Addie can’t get on there and do whatever she wants to do.

Parenting in this digital age seems more difficult than it was just a few years ago.

Parental controls on the gadgets is pretty much a MUST nowadays. Our DIL learned that she had to log off her Amazon account when she was finished using it after the then 4 yr. old kids ordered a couple things. They have also blocked youTube because of the Momo thing and the detrimental stuff that’s been inserted into kids’ cartoon videos. Some pretty sick things have been inserted into some of those videos, dangerous things, including telling kids to commit suicide and how to do it.

I agree with the parental controls. Just like the ones you put on the TV’s.

That was a funny instance, but there are some not so funny ones. Parental control means some completely new things these days … and some people haven’t gotten the old ones down pat yet!
