Addie really is a great little student. She never wants to break the rules and she gets really concerned if she thinks we aren’t doing something right. Yesterday when we told her we were coming to meet her for lunch, she said “I have to have a note for the teacher!” Nicole said “Just tell her we’re coming to meet you for lunch.” No . . she had to have a note so I grabbed a piece of paper and wrote “Addie’s mom and grandma will be coming to have lunch with her today.” I handed it to Addie and she wanted me to read it to her. I did. She said “You have to tell them if you’re bringing food or buying food in the cafeteria!” So, I had to add “We will be bringing food and not eating food from the cafeteria.”
She must have heard the teacher asking other students questions about whether the parents would be eating the cafeteria food.
Addie is terribly hard headed and argumentative at home but apparently at school, she isn’t that way at all.
She brought home math papers and she had done great. Last night she wanted to know if I had any math problems she could solve. I didn’t and they don’t have a printer hooked up so I told her we would buy some first grade math workbooks while in Joplin this weekend and maybe she can work on them during the summer. I’m so glad she has a desire to learn and do well.
She’s also told me that she’s coming to spend 10 days with Vince and me this summer. I’ll believe that when I see it. Vince said “What are you going to do when she gets there and the second day, she wants her mom?” I said “I guess I’ll be driving back to Missouri!” I think Vince and I will be here sometime soon and rent a cabin and she can spend a few nights with us and see how she does before we take her 10 hours down the highway . . at least til we know if she’s going to be ok being that far away from mom!

A test run seems like a good plan! It would be a long 10 hours with a homesick little girl.

You could do that when it gets so hot here this summer! Should still be cool there, at least cooler than here!

My granddaughter started coming to spend part of the summer when she was 5. We were about 45 minutes into a 5 hour trip when she said “I miss my mommy…” I told her that we had lots of things to do and she could FaceTime her mom every morning and night and it worked. She came for only 3-4 days the first time and now we are at 7-8 days.
She helps to make a list of what crafts and things we will do.

How fun it would be to have her spend even a few days with you.
