You remember the post a few days back when my old Black & Decker steamer basically fell apart. It had several breaks . . too much use, too much abuse. When I realized I could no longer get that model, I ordered a different steamer and it’s just nowhere near the quality of the B&D steamer. Then I ordered the nicer stainless steamer that didn’t even work at all.
Between ordering the flimsy one (which I didn’t know was flimsy when I ordered it) and ordering the nicer one, Vince said “I’ll find one on ebay” and my response was that I didn’t want someone else’s used steamer!
I have to apologize to Vince. This thing arrived today (it did not come with asparagus in it!) and it looks brand new. My guess is that it might have been used once. It still had the drip tray, the rice cooking bowl . . it truly looks like it’s never been used. Vince said “It isn’t even yellow!” and I realized how horrible my old one looked. It kinda makes me happy mine broke now that I have this nice, fresh looking steamer. I am so happy to have this. Vince said he’s going to be looking for another one just in case this one doesn’t live as long as I do.
It was pretty traumatic that night when I realized I could not get another steamer just like this one.
Then I was talking to my friend a day or so ago and I was telling her the story. I said “You know the Black & Decker steamer you have? (because she has one just like it) Mine was probably 20+ years old and it quit working.” She said “It probably is that old because I bought mine at a garage sale quite a few years ago!” So here’s my best friend here with the exact same one from a garage sale and now mine is from ebay!
I had planned to send the flimsy steamer back but it was not even $25 I think so I’m going to take it to Chad’s. I can use it there and steam broccoli, asparagus . . whatever . . and on the nights they’re having mac & cheese or baked potatoes, I can eat the meat they fix and steam myself some veggies. If they have room for it, I’ll just leave there and they can use it if they want or I’ll use it when I’m there. Pretty good idea, huh?

Why don’t you use the instantpot as a steamer? It works great and I know you have a couple because I bought mine because of your rave reviews 🙂

I had one of the Black and Decker steamers and I was so sad when it quit working. Now I use the microwave, but I really loved that steamer.

Do these work better than one of those metal baskets that you use on the cook top? It looks much smaller than your stainless one that you are returning. What is a good price for one?

Outstanding! That’s great! I’m so happy you have one – yay Vince! I also think that’s a good idea to take the other one to Chad’s – it will help you stay on track on the keto.

I love my black and decker steamer too.. I found one at a thriftstore and bought it for a back up.. I figure it was steam cleaned every time it was used so it has no cooties.
