Last night I finished the Annis shawl. The pattern is free and it’s a well written, easy to understand pattern but this is not my favorite project. This morning I soaked it and it’s now blocking.
I just pinned it down for blocking, took a photo and now I see a couple of points that need a bit of work. I’ll go back and re-pin so they’ll all dry correctly.
The pattern recommended Miss Babs’ Yet lace but I used Malabrigo Lace. Miss Babs’ is a bit thicker/fuller than Malabrigo Lace. The pattern recommended size 8 needles so I went down to a 7 hoping for a good match but this shawl is way too loosely knit for my liking.
In order to qualify for the “tiny needles” badge, which is “complete any project using laceweight yarn” and each project has to have a minimum of 300 yards. When reading the pattern comments, some people said they used 250 yards! Others said they used 400 yards and both were following the pattern exactly. Some made additional repeats of the lace pattern in order to use more of the skein (470 yards for Malabrigo Lace). Since it was really important that I use at least 300 yards, I did about 30 rows of short rows just making the center back area of the shawl deeper than the pattern indicated. Thank goodness I did because with that, I ended up using 320 yards.
Glad to have that one finished and the badges submitted.

I think it’s pretty, and I bet you’ll like it for the summer months when you go somewhere and the air conditioning is blowing full blast! Great work!

I just have to say that I really enjoyed your video blogs, and hope that you will do more. It felt like sitting down at the kitchen table and visiting with a friend.

It’s quite pretty, Judy. I bet it will be just the thing some nights.
