It was really cold for central Texas the beginning of last week. On Tuesday morning, when I let the chickens out, it was 14! Being way too cold for outside work, I needed to find something new and exciting to occupy my time indoors and I found it.
I decided to create my own website. This was not a new idea, I had planned to do it for a number of years. In fact, I had two hosting accounts in the last 6 years. I piddled a bit with the first account but the learning curve seemed long with everything else I had going on at the time. I subscribed to the second account two years ago and again never did much with it. There is one year left on my current account subscription so I decided what better time than now to get my own blog up and running. If you plan to start your own blog, let me give you one valuable piece of advice. Keep your identity, which is associated with your domain name, private. This costs a few extra bucks but it is well worth it. I didn’t do it at first and within one day, my email and phone were flooded with offers for website services. Some were so arrogant that when I didn’t reply to their email, they sent me a second email wanting to know why I didn’t reply to their first email. It got so bad, I had to install additional software on my phone to screen calls.
Monday was spent learning how to create the website and by Tuesday the framework for the website was completed. I found a couple of really good Youtube videos that guided me through the process. It’s not a fancy site but its all I need to get started. The best part is, I did all the work and it didn’t cost me any additional money.
At the moment, the site is not ready for public viewing. I’ll add a link here once I have it all set up and working. The site is for sharing information and ideas and it’s not so much about me. At some point. I still have some tweaking to do and bit more to learn. Learning all about managing images is my current challenge. Taking pictures, developing graphics, and using new software will all take some time. We are even considering the idea of podcasts. I only hope that once the nicer weather arrives for good, I don’t abandon these ideas for more outside activities. Oh, what am I saying? In a few months it will be 100 and I will be happy to be indoors and glad I have a blog to work on.
The weather improved the latter part of last week and I was able to get back in the garden and clear some additional areas for planting. I also picked up all the branches I left on the ground when I trimmed the fruit trees. As Judy mentioned, three nights last week, we were outside in the cold spraying water on the blooming trees with the hope that we could salvage some fruit. Time will tell if we were successful but if I had to guess, I’d say we lost it all for this year. That’s about it for now. I have a blog to work on!

If you pick up html and CSS, it makes the whole thing a lot easier. You don’t have to learn it all, you just have to know how to find a site and get the code from it to use on your own. =)
