Last night I was going to cast on for my Persistence is Key. I have a bad habit of glancing at the instructions and not reading every word. I needed to cast on 86 stitches so I cast on 86 stitches. Then, I read “Cast on 86 stitches using cable cast on.” I had used the backwards loop. I ripped out the cast on and started doing the cable cast on. My cable cast on just isn’t as nice as my long tail cast on so I ripped it about and again cast on 86 stitches using the long tail.
Then I read the next step and your next row is on the right side of the fabric but with a long tail cast on, your first row is the wrong side and there is a difference in those cast on stitches.
I had to rip back and do the cable cast on. I could have read the instructions and cast on once. Instead, I didn’t read the instructions, then made an uninformed decision about what to do and ended up casting on four different times!
This red is so pretty! That’s the collar. I will be knitting on this most of the day . . I hope!

I do things like that too. My hitufude sweater I did a 6 row repeat of the 8 row lace pattern which I realized when I was on to the next step and it said be sure to end with row 8 . You and I are the only knitters who know that.

I basically only use long tail cast on no matter what the pattern may call for (sometimes tubular CO) (unless I’m CO stitches in the middle (neckline or buttonhole or something like that) since I don’t like the way cable or backwards loop look. I would have been lazy and just ribbed one extra row on the long tail to get to the proper place to start pattern. Yes, I’m a rebel. LOL 🙂
