Before Christmas I made one of these for Addie’s teacher for her Christmas present and I made a matching one for Addie. I gave yarn to a friend for Christmas to make one for her daughter and granddaughter and she did and they were beautiful. We’ve made our share of these in the last several months but I made another one as part of Malabrigo March and it will earn ESK badges for cowl, winter wear and “double dip” because it is in conjunction with Malabrigo March.
These pictures were taken inside last night and surprisingly, the color isn’t bad.
The Gap-tastic cowl pattern is free and these are quick to make. I started this one on March 1 and finished it March 4 and was doing other things (spinning) for part of a couple of those days.
My plan is to always keep yarn (bulky weight) to make these. They’re perfect “in the car passenger seat” projects. No thinking required!
The pattern recommends a size US 13 needle but I’m such a loose knitter that I used a size US 11 and love the fabric it produces.

Thanks for the yarn/needle info.

Do you think the length is enough to double up around the neck if you follow the pattern instructions? And, would it be appropriate for men? My husband wants me to knit him something to keep his neck and chest warm when he wears his Carhart jacket (the top of the zipper always seems to “slip” open a little) and I wanted a mindless take along project, so…

Very pretty – and so nice to start and finish quickly, isn’t it?
