Vince truly cracks me up. You know we have this budget which has been his idea – 100%. I think it’s all kinda crazy because my feeling is . . you buy what you need (except for yarn . . then you buy what you want!). It isn’t like we’re having to pinch pennies. I figure if we’ve made it this long and been able to spend and still save, there’s no need to change now. We’re not taking it with us when we leave, right?
I think his budget is simply to try to stop me from buying yarn. I don’t think he even really believes we need a budget . . he just wants to torture me! 🙂
Yesterday we went to Aldi. They had all kinds of little shelf units. I love those kinds of things because I have so much “stuff”. I said “oh, I like this!” Vince said “Let’s get it!” I was thinking about the budget and I said “No, I don’t need it. He insisted. We ended up getting several different ones and the amazing part is that he came home and put them all together! One is a unit that has deep wire drawers that slide in. I put that in an extra bedroom and that’s where I’m keeping yarn, in project bags, for projects I want to make real soon (as opposed to losing the yarn in the sewing room tubs and having to order more yarn!)
The other is a shelf I put in the bathroom. I use the second bathroom here and it’s tiny. The only cabinet is under the sink and it smells funny. At one point I was sure there was a leak under the cabinet and we had a plumber come out and check everything. There’s no leak . . it just smells funny under there so I don’t keep towels in there. So, the towels stay in the extra bedroom by the bathroom and I have to go in there to get my towels. I’ve done it 7 years so it isn’t impossible but with the cute little shelf/rack, I can now keep towels in the bathroom.
Anyway, there have been several yarn deliveries this week so I think Vince was feeling bad that he wasn’t getting anything. He found something he wanted and it was a bit more expensive than my yarn had been. He said “Do you care if I get this?” Of course I didn’t care! He was dressed and ready to go early this morning and he did not want me going with him. Hmmm .. that was strange. It ended up, he bought TWO of what he went after but the funny thing was .. he went by Goodwill. It was actually on his way but he found this Technics amplifier/tuner for $13. He came home and found a used one just like it online for $129 so he’s feeling very proud of himself.
He hooked it up in the back of the RTV but he’s going to put it in the shop.
He also got these Sony speakers for $2 each. He got 5 and he’s going to hook those up in the shop and have surround sound. The good thing about that is when I’m out in the garden, I can open the back doors to the shop and have music in the garden.
He’s pretty happy with his new find.

Would you show us the shelves? Our closest Aldi almost never has that kind of thing

I went to the Aldi online site and they have the weekly ads as well as an advance look. I did not know about the advance look.
Judy – you may need to go next week – there are advertising a $13 “chef’s mat” or a padded mat. I’ve gotten some for a lot more and I’ll be going to get some at this price. With my knees, even a bit of cushion helps and the one in my kitchen is under a regular floor mat, so it looks good. Vince may want to get some for his workshop. Wait – I checked the current finds list (which appears to not the same as the ad) and there are mats for $8 – a bit smaller and with some designs. I guess I am going to Aldi’s.
Other “finds” are mini-pans for $4 – I like my cast iron, but a mini pan to cook an egg or other stuff might be a good deal. Next week seems to be a gardener’s special week. There is a walk-in greenhouse with shelves – $35. Yea, it’s plastic and cheap, but, it’s a possibility to get some plants going. I already have daffys, irises, and crocuses showing. I am in OKC area.
The Aldi ad wanted my zipcode, so I don’t know if it changes the ad options, but it worth a look. I sure hope that what I saw is what is available at my store. I know that at Christmas, I told Judy that I bought Brie logs which made it easier to cut a small slice to put on something. I don’t think she found them at her store. I never have found the lamb deals Judy gets, but the fish deals are good. I also look for the frozen turkey breasts which I can cook from near frozen (defrosted to get the gravy packet out) to done in my Instant Pot.
It’s their evil ways – make us tll everyone about the great buys and then, you can’t find the stuff but end up buying much more!

That’s an amazing steal of a deal! Nice to garden to music. Curious if you and Vince like the same kind of music.
