It’s been 5 weeks today since we started our new way of eating, which I hope is a lifetime change but time will tell. For me, it’s more of a new way of drinking since the Dr. Peppers are gone, for the most part. I still have one about once a week if I really want it. Last night I really wanted one but it was about 8 p.m. and I knew it was way too late to drink one. This morning I started my day watching some of videos by Dr. Mindy Pelz. We watch a lot of different videos so I listen to several opinions and form my own thoughts about how to get through this weight loss plan. Not only do I learn from the different videos/writings but I am inspired. I went to bed thinking I’d have a Dr. Pepper today. After watching the videos, I wouldn’t have one if someone brought it to me in my favorite glass!
When we first began the diet, many of you expressed to me that it wasn’t healthy to lose more than a couple of pounds per week. This chart should set your mind at ease.
That first week or 10 days was pretty much totally from cutting out the 25 or 30 Dr. Peppers I was drinking per week.
The chart shown above is from the Carb Manager app and I don’t enter my weight every day. My Omada Health scale sends the weight via wifi to them every time I weigh so, according to their chart, I lost 2.7 pounds last week. I’m happy with that rate, though I’ll be happy if I lose even 1 pound per week.
So far, in 5 weeks, I’ve lost 17.3 pounds. I would be happy to lose 30 more pounds, and very happy to lose 35 more pounds. Even with an additional 35 pounds, I would still weigh about 5 pounds more than I did 20 years ago. According to most charts, I need to lose 33 more pounds to be within a health BMI range.
We’re doing great. It is such an easy diet to follow. We haven’t been out to eat once in five weeks. In fact, Vince said “Let’s just remove eating out from the budget!” Fine with me. He did say that when he loses 20 more pounds, we can go to Chick-Fil-A and get grilled chicken. Fine with me but I’m also going to get waffle fries .. maybe he will lose his extra 20 pounds by my birthday in June and that can be our birthday lunch! 🙂

You should put your Dr. Pepper savings into an account for yarn.

I asked my Doctor about Keto this morning when I went for an A1c. i’ve done it before without telling him but since I was there I thought I’d ask. My triglycerides are high so I need to do something. He said he was okay with me doing it for 3 months but that’s as long as he wanted me to stay on it. That’s about how long I stayed on it last time before my Mom died and I just kinda was lost for a while. Anyway I was okay with 3months. He said with some other health problems I have he thought 3 months was long enough. WIth that said if my numbers improve during that 3 months his tune may change right along with mine. Glad ya’ll are doing so good. I thought it was pretty easy too. Even eating out wasn’t bad as long as it wasn’t every day.
My way of solving my sweet cravings once in a while when I was on it was a spoonful of real whipped cream. One spoon would do it and I was good to go for another 3 or 4 weeks.

I wonder how you will react to fries after that length of time eating well. It might not be a treat!

So proud of you both! I think the first pounds are water weight and like you said the DP’s do add a lot of sugar to the diet. Even if you drink the little ones. You are doing great! So proud of you for sticking with this!!

That’s great! I’m so pleased for both of you. Somewhere I read we should never reward ourselves with food, but really, that’s a huge motivator, so I’m not going to take it off the table, as it were. =)
