Vince has been cleaning and sorting some of the old paperwork around here . . and some of it is very old.
For those of you who weren’t with me 17 years ago . . can you believe it’s been that long since Chad was in high school . . this is to give you hope if you have children or grandchildren giving you grief.
Look at those grades. An A+ in Algebra. A note from the Computer Application teacher that he’s a pleasure to have in class. An A+ in PE, which should not have been too hard to do but for Chad . . it all depended on whether he liked the teacher or not.
Spanish . . D- with the note “Possible failure!”
Then his Personal Improvement Plan . . “Talks constantly. Doesn’t complete assignments on time with good quality. . . Jokes around – isn’t serious about learning.”
I can laugh about it now but it definitely was not funny back then. There are also several emails back and forth between me and the principal.
What is seriously funny is that Chad was trying to do flash cards with Addie the other day and she wasn’t cooperating. I don’t know what Chad said to her but she turned to him and said “I do NOT care about school!” Chad said he was kinda flabbergasted because she loves school. I told him . . she loves the social aspect of school. She wears cute clothes and shoes, Nicole does cute things with her hair. I think the teacher adores her. The learning and the work . . not Addie’s cup of tea but I’d say she got it honest.
When Chad was telling me that story, I told him . . “Chad, it’s called payback time!” I have the documents to prove it.

I think the social aspect is the only thing that kept my stepdaughter in high school. She was smart, but wouldn’t use her head.

My oldest granddaughter (now almost 28) used to call me on a regular basis when she was a teenager to ask “is it true that Dad never _______?” Of course, I had to tell the truth…payback for sure! My son met her mother when he was 16 and her mother was 17 with a 3-month old baby. In many ways, they grew up together. It’s great to be a Grandma!

Payback time indeed! I’ve reminded my kids of that pretty regularly ever since they had kids.

This made me smile. I can remember my aunt saying she hoped I had children just like me – argumentative, probably was her complaint. I think the problem was how much she and I were alike! LOL
