There are several things I want you all to remember with my diet updates:
- I’m not a doctor. I have no medical training. I’m not advising or suggesting anyone do any of what I mention.
- We’re doing keto and there are multiple “rules” for keto. Some do it one way. Some do it another way. The way I do it may not be the way you do it . . or the way your friend did it.
- When I write these posts, often it’s more of a diary for me to go back and see where we were and what we were doing at a certain time.
- I love your comments . . whether you agree or disagree (nicely) with me. I never mind hearing someone else’s viewpoint and I never mind when someone points out errors I’ve made.
So, with all that being said . . I wanted to do a 24 hour fast. Another thing to remember, except for my addiction to Dr. Pepper and my excess weight, I seem to be pretty healthy. I don’t take any meds at all so I may be able to do a few more things on this diet than Vince can do because he does take several meds.
Thank you all for the “No Salt” recommendation. Vince did get some of that today. Apparently it’s a hot item at Walmart. They only had one container of it and it’s outrageous at Amazon (almost $12 and less than $5 at Walmart). The one container will last us a while.
Back to my fasting . . we ate dinner about 4 yesterday and I’m not eating til 4 this afternoon so this will be my first ever 24 hour fast. There’s something about the way my body reacts to keto that I’m just not hungry. I was thinking about what I would fix for dinner and you would think, now that I haven’t eaten for 22 hours, most anything would sound good, but actually, I’m just not hungry.
Vince bought some of the mini cans of Dr. Pepper. He said “When you have a headache and don’t want to waste a whole can when you’re only going to drink half a can, you can use these!” I’m thinking . . there’s probably 20 – 12 packs out there . . I really don’t mind wasting a whole can but I thanked him for his thoughtfulness. He put them in the fridge and I took them out and put them in the shop fridge . . removing the temptation, but I truly am not tempted.
I haven’t taken my blood pressure and I probably won’t talk about it much because it’s always low. I will watch it to be sure it doesn’t go too low but I don’t think it will.
The great news . . my blood glucose was at my target when I checked it today. I have my “annual” doctor visit coming up in the next few months and I’m going to be anxious to see what my A1C reveals, although, if my weight is down enough, she may not even do the A1C. I don’t know if they did that because I was older or because I was overweight. Guess I’ll find out when I see her.
Aldi has a convection countertop oven on sale for about $39 this week. I got one and am doing rotisserie chicken in there for dinner. Headed in the kitchen to truss that baby up . .

You inspire me, thank you. I will run this by my oncologist I use her for changes in foods and drugs. I will let you know what she advises for my situation. Thank you for all you advise and the Whyse.

I wish we got the same Aldi deals you do. They’ve been doing my A1C every six months for years. It’s part of the whole lab tests every time.

I saw those in their ads. Looked interesting. What kind of food sealer do you have? So glad you are doing well on the Keto. Would love to see you.

I’ve never tried keto, and probably never will. Right now I’m using an app on my phone called “Lose It” that keeps track of all my food intake (with me entering it) and how much and what type of exercise I do. I didn’t do very well today, but I’m usually doing well most days. I think it helps me to see exactly how many calories I’ve had for the day, how much the exercise affects what I can eat, and seems to make me more accountable to myself.
I couldn’t fast even if I wanted to. I take way too many medications that depend on my having food in my stomach when I take them. I’m not sure I’d want to try to fast anyway….I’m afraid I’d lose enough energy to be able to function during the day. Don’t know for sure – I’ve never tried it, but it doesn’t sound appealing either!! 🙂

Please don’t forget to drink water, or decaf tea while you fast. You know that dehydration can give you a miserable headache and it is so easy to forget to drink, especially when it’s cool and you are not out in the garden. The fact that you are trying to keep healthy is what counts not that we all do it the same way, good luck and best of health!!

Glad everything is going good on your and Vince’s dieting ..I love those little cans of Pepsi.. Its enough to satisfy, but yet one isn’t drinking a huge can of pop
I look at it this way: its whatever is best for you and Vince.

Judy just a bit of info. on No Salt. No Salt is high in potassium. I am a caregiver and home health has told me you have to be careful with how much potassium you get in some cases. I thought you might want to know. Also have you tried your Aldi convection oven out yet and can give us all a review?
