Poor Vince. He may think twice about wanting to come back to Louisiana. He’s working hard.
I always feel bad about staying at someone else’s house unless I feel like we’re making ourselves useful. Vince seriously isn’t working hard but he’s doing things to help my uncle, and he’s so appreciative and he makes us feel like he never wants us to leave so that’s good.
When I’m at Chad’s, I cook, I do laundry, I keep Addie, I help with homework, I take her shopping for clothes . . so I feel like I’m not just taking up space but I also feel like if I’m going to make that trip, I want to stay at least two weeks and when I leave, I think I can hear Chad thinking . . it’s about time you left!
My uncle is getting up there in years and a lot of things, he just can no longer do. Vince has changed light bulbs (in 10′ and 12′ ceilings), he built one wood duck house and then my uncle said “one at the lake is about to fall apart” so Vince said “do you want me to build another one?” Yes! So Vince made a second one.
My uncle has a way of saying things need to be done without asking Vince to do them. Yesterday:
Uncle: My old mail box is about to fall apart. I need to change it!
Vince: Do you want to go get one tomorrow and I’ll change it for you?
Uncle: YES!
Then later:
Uncle: The latch on that old gate isn’t working. I messed with it but I guess it needs to be changed.
Vince: Do you want me to work on it?
Uncle: YES!
Vince was out working on the gate this morning and my uncle told him “There’s another one on the greenhouse that isn’t working too!” So Vince went and checked that one out.
My only contributions this trip have been two breakfasts, one dinner, a couple of loads of laundry and spraying squeaky door hinges with lubricant.
The two of them left before 8 this morning to go get bolts (or nuts) for the gates, a new mail box and to have breakfast out. Thank you, boys!
Vince is enjoying it and he feels like he’s being useful and helping my uncle.

That’s so nice that Vince is able and willing to help your uncle with all those “little” things he has trouble doing…..I’m sure your uncle appreciates the help more than you will ever know, plus the two men are bonding…..Enjoy your visit & safe travels home…..Dot M. In Pa…..

It’s wonderful that Vince is willing to be your uncle’s “handyman”!

Thank you to Vince. I’m an oldster getting to be who knows about things not working but don’t know how to fix them myself. I already knew he was talented that way from all the things he fixes around the house or makes for use. I know the uncle is grateful. I have a engineer son-in-law with those talents and try not to call on him too much but sometimes a light in a high ceiling needs someone who can go up a ladder w/o vertigo.

I’m sure that your uncle is glad you married Vince! Every family needs at least one Mr. or Ms. fix-it!
I wonder if your uncle’s tactic will work on you, too? Hey, Judy, I sure am hungry but I don’t have anything yummy to eat…!
