Last night when I put down the Hitofude project, I decided to pack up a few knitting things to take with me to MO. I wanted to take Addie’s unicorn sweater.
The front is done, the back is started. The back is just mindless knitting now. The sleeves are striped but there’s not a lot of thinking that will go into that. I plan to finish the back, sew the shoulder seams together, then soak and block it. I think the ears and the horn are knitted separately and kinda embroidered onto the front. I’ll get those done and blocked and then I’ll attach them before sewing the side seams. While all that is drying, I can knit the sleeves, then they’ll have to be blocked and dried so I can sew it all together. I could . . maybe but probably not . . get that all done while I’m there. I had all the yarn except the white. Where on earth did I put the white yarn? Not a clue! Everything else was together in a bag but not the white yarn. I was thinking . . I can get by without the white but when I looked at the pattern, the ear has to be white. I searched. It was after 1 a.m. and I was still searching. I looked in my Cascade 220 tub. Nope. I looked in a bag where I put leftover yarn to take back to the sewing room. Nope. Not there.
I sat down, grabbed my computer and was going to order another skein and have it sent to Chad’s. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw a partial skein of white yarn on the table underneath some recipes I’d printed. I was so happy and so relieved because Eat, Sleep, Knit was out of the white I needed. I have free shipping there til the end of the year. Anywhere else, I’m going to have to pay probably $6 or $7 for shipping on a $9 skein of yarn.
When I retrieved the partial white skein, it was the leftover yarn from Addie’s reindeer hat – the Blue Sky Woolstok. That would not work but it needed to be put back in the bag with the other Blue Sky Woolstok. When I stuck it in the bag, I noticed one partial skein that was a bit more white. There you are!
There’s not much difference in the two but when you put the Woolstok (left) next to the 220 (right), they’re obviously different and since the ear fits right on the unicorn body, I needed the exact right yarn. So glad I found that! I had stopped working on the unicorn sweater to make the reindeer hat and somehow the white for the unicorn didn’t get put back in the bag with the rest of the unicorn yarn and then got picked up with the leftovers from the reindeer hat. Easy to do but I’m normally more careful with project yarn. Hopefully, I’ll be super careful from now on. I wasted over an hour looking for that yarn and almost talked myself into buying more yarn!

I’m glad you found it. The ear should match! Don’t forget when you finish it to post a picture of it, front back and upside down. =)

Do you ever find something and wonder WHY did I put it there?
