The gumbo turned out delicious!
It has shrimp, crab and crawfish.
Vince is kinda picky about crawfish and sometimes he thinks they taste fishy. Crawfish!
To be sure they weren’t going to be too fishy, I seasoned them and kinda fried them in butter and let Vince taste them. He approved so I was able to add them to the gumbo.
I’ve used all my home grown, home canned okra so I had to buy fresh okra and saute it with the sausage before adding it to the gumbo. If you cook the okra til the “slime” is gone, then it won’t be slimy in the gumbo.
So, so good!
If you didn’t know better, you’d think I love my cast iron. I love my cast iron and gas stove.
Since I’m not a fan of the microwave, this little tiny little Lodge pot for melting butter gets used almost every single day.
I also love that I love to cook!

I’m an okra girl from way back. Looks like you solved the crawfish taste problem too. Sometimes, just every so often, I get that fishy taste from crawfish. It’s not often to make me quit eating them though. I have friends down around Baton Rouge and they make sure I’m well stocked. Reading your post means gumbo tomorrow!

I just love my cast iron pans, and you have a stove similar to mine .. LOVE the gas stove for sure , ability to cook when the electric is out is just a life saver.
My Dad used to make alot of gumbo when I was a kid and it was so wonderful !!!

I love seeing all your cast iron pots on your modern stove. LOL I was just thinking I could drive over to the Lodge store and pick up one of those butter melting pots. =)
