Just a minute ago, I was sitting here typing and I noticed I couldn’t feel anything in the tip of my left index finger. I looked at it and just the tip, from the last joint towards the end was ghost white. I looked at Vince and he said WHAT? I said “The tip of my index finger just died!” He came over and he couldn’t believe . . seriously, it was ghost white and I couldn’t feel anything in it.
Vince: What are you going to do about it?
Me: Write a blog post about it!
Vince: I guess if it starts stinking, we’ll know it’s really dead!
Thanks a lot, Vince.
Seriously, Vince massaged it and held it in his warm hands and the feeling and color came back. I Googled it . . what else are you to do when you have the awful health insurance I have? and there some conditions that could cause this but I think what happened was this: I had just gone over and taken the frozen pizza trays out of the home freezer and put them in the freeze dryer. That’s probably the finger that was against those frozen trays the longest and it might have had a little frostbite or something similar.
If it does it again, I’ll be sure and tell the doctor .. when I can go again . . in June, 2019. Have I said lately how much I totally dislike this health insurance I have? The other night I thought I might have a kidney stone. Vince said “What are you going to do?” I said “open a bottle of bourbon!” $950 co-pay just to walk into the emergency room. I’ve already had to do that once and I doubt, short of life and death situations, I’ll do that again.
For those of you with good, or even average, health insurance, thank your lucky stars. We had great insurance for so many years and I never realized how lucky we were to have what we had.

I understand that in 2019 the mandatory Obamacare approved insurance won’t be required. Maybe you will be able to find some that more fits your health & situation with better deductibles, co-pays and/or premium prices. Hoping you DON’T have a kidney stone!

Wow, $950??? That’s insane! I wish a very happy and healthy 2019 for you and Vince!!! And wear gloves when you work with the freeze dryer!

My finger tips get numb when my hands are cold! Happens every time I go to the grocery store. Really weird

I concur on getting gloves for the freezer. I have a glove with silicon dots on both sides. Works better than a pot holder for my iron skillets. I would think that they would work for holding onto a cold tray. I put a command strip hook by oven so there is no excuse for me not to use it!
BTW, I had to go for some blood work today and the lab now has a “direct” pay option for certain tests. You can just go in and get tested, but since a doctor hasn’t ordered it, you can’t ask for insurance reimbursement, but it might be cheaper. The cholesterol and glucose tests are $13, CBC is $14. The lab has lots of sites in OK, none in TX, but there may be some options in your neck of the woods.

My husband and I frequently appreciate the insurance we have. However, it is a factor in considering retirement…we are reluctant to lose it. In fact, my husband was just telling me an advantage of his company acquiring another company: they have a younger average workforce. Lower premiums for us, probably!

Thanks heavens we have medicare and supplemental insurance. Our annual deductible is less than $200.00!

‘Write a blog post about it’–you crack me up. I know I always tell you that, but it’s true! Glad you seem to be keeping your finger (at least, for today!).

Google Raynaud’s syndrome. That’s what I think it is. Just so you know, I got my medical degree by watching House.

That is what it’s called but I think what I had was just from my finger being so cold messing with those frozen trays.

Until otherwise shown to be different, I’m going with the cold just shocked your fingertip!

I thank God daily that I stuck it out with the State even though it was pure hell at times. My insurance and Medicare pay off like a slot machine! I have 0 copay and I love it. I guess it was worth all the torment I went through just to have this.

I haven’t commented in a long time but what happened to you happens to my son on occasion in the winter. What he has is Raynaud’s and his was from chemotherapy. He saw a rheumatologist about it and because it happens so infrequently there is nothing to do except try to keep his hands and feet warm in the winter. When it happens he just needs to warm up the fingers or toes. He has put his finger in his mouth to warm it up or put his hand in his armpit. He also keeps those instant heat packets in his coat pocket in the winter.
