This is going to be a bit different from most of my projects. I love the idea of Hanne. It’s kinda like It Takes a Guild – the sweater with Suzanne Bryan. I knew with that sweater that if I didn’t cast on when everyone else did, that I was going to feel behind and intimidated and that’s how I feel. I’ve watched dozens of her videos. I have learned so much from her but . . I just can’t wrap my brain around that sweater. Some day.
The Pattern:
Anyway, I’m really excited to try Hanne but I’m a bit apprehensive too. It’s one where you do your swatch, measure yourself and you’re supposed to be able to make any yarn work and get a perfect fitting sweater. I know that will work but sometimes it’s easier to have row by row instructions . . telling you everything.
I would love a good fitting, maybe a bit oversized, simple cardi that I could make in several colors and know I’m always going to get a good fit, no matter what yarn I use. I’m anxious to try this one.
The Yarn:
There’s a story behind this yarn. I bought this back in 2013 for a mystery knit along. It didn’t go so well. There was a mistake right off the bat and I gave up before the second clue ever came out. I was much less experienced as far as knitting and it was probably over my head to start with but every time I see this yarn, I think about that project. It’s a very soft yarn and I’ve read some of the comments about it and apparently people have had issues with it pilling and getting fuzzy. I’m thinking . . I’ve got it . . might as well use it for something. At least I can get this out of my stash and see how I feel about the pattern.
On Ravelry, this yarn is listed as being put up on 110 yard skeins. I have five skeins, which would be 550 yards. I figure, since this pattern doesn’t give specific yardage because we’re supposed to figure that out for ourselves, I should start with about 1,700 yards of DK weight. I knew my skeins were larger so I looked at the label. Each skein is 549 yards . . BIG skein! Therefore, I have 2,700 yards. I may have enough yarn to make myself and Nicole a cardigan out of this yarn.

What do you do with your swatches that you use to check the pattern & yarn? I know you mentioned that it’s not as easy to deal with leftover yarn, unlike making a patchwork quilt from scraps. But, could you use like textures and colors to make a throw or something?
Second question – do you keep a bit of any leftover yarn in a “special place” in case there is a need for repair of a sweater or whatever? I have a button jar holding all those extra buttons that are on clothes.

Although you know I don’t usually do top down sweaters – this one is on my list to try because I’d like a simple raglan sweater.

The sweater looks very comfortable and could be a great go-to. I like the yarn color. I think it would look great with any color of blue jeans, and black jeans, and of course, white jeans, too.
