Several weeks ago Vince built Cat a new “tree”. The intention was to place her heated cat pad on one of the shelves. There had been kind of a rickety one level shelf that Vince had set up for her but it wasn’t level, but she liked it. Vince moved that so she was not happy about that. He built the new one and put it up and she would walk around and look at it but she wouldn’t get too close to it. Vince put her food on the bottom shelf. She would put her front legs on the shelf and stretch to get to the food but she wouldn’t get on the shelf. After a week or so, she started getting on the bottom shelf so he put her food bowl up on the second shelf. Once she got used to that, he moved her bowl up to the top shelf. He was thinking that since she loves sitting up on top of our cars, she would like that top shelf but she took forever to get up there.
Yesterday Vince came and got me to come see her. She was on the top shelf eating. I think when I came out, she figured we were up to no good and she got down.
Yesterday morning, I went out and she was up there again. She was just relaxing up there . . not eating.
Look how fat she’s gotten. In the summer when it was so hot, she was looking pretty scrawny but she looks good now and her fur is thick and shiny.
I can’t get too close to her or she’ll run so my pictures were taken on zoom so they’re not real clear.
When I walked by her the first time, she jumped down but by this afternoon, she was staying in her spot when I walked by . . so long as I didn’t look at her or get too close.
She’s such a pretty cat. I wish she would let me pet her. I guess I should be happy that she stays close to home and stays safe . . and not expect too much from this old feral girl!

Those photos made me smile. She is such a gorgeous cat. She’s lucky to have found you and is now a pampered kitty. Hope she realizes it.

Judy – So glad she is learning to like it ! If Vince were to add about a 6 inch board on three sides of the top perch, she would like it more – she could sleep while not worrying about rolling off, and she would feel as if she is less visible to predators. My cat tree has three low ‘sides’ on all the perches… leave
the front open for jumping up.

Judy, you have a good man in Vince. Not all men have such kind hearts. You two
are such a good match!

MAN!! You have truly fallen from grace (Cat’s grace anyway). What the heck is wrong with that cat?!!

We have had EIGHT feral cats show up in our back yard recently! I do occasionally toss bones out in the back alley for whatever roams, but never have seen any animals. I started seeing them sleeping on top of our chicken run. The good news about that is it chased away the doves that were stealing our chicken feed. The chickens don’t act afraid of them so I assume they are leaving them alone. Since the weather has cooled and we open our doors, I see them in the evening, begging at the back door.

Maybe eventually she will forgive you for whatever she thinks you did to her! She is pretty and maybe the heavy coat means we are going to have a cold winter??

She is pretty, but that wily trait is probably what helps keep her safe. So where is the heated pad now?
