Yesterday Vince wanted to go get a pizza. We have the typical chain type pizza places. One place downtown makes homemade, really good pizza. There’s an outstanding place about 40 from here. He decided to get two of the $7.99 pizzas from a chain. I’m not sure I’ve ever had a worse pizza.
This morning we were talking about it and I said “Vince, it isn’t that much trouble to make a pizza that’s really good but I can’t do it on the spur of the moment.” The crust I like takes 4 or 5 hours to make and I don’t always have the cheeses on hand that I like to use. If we make pizzas once a week or so, I’ll keep the ingredients in the fridge.
I think, depending on how the weight loss goes after the first of the year, we may have Friday night pizza night and just plan it for every Friday night. Except, we’d have it about 3 on Friday afternoon because we don’t eat much in the evenings.
When the choices around town are limited, you just do it yourself!

When I pulled up this post, 2 more about pizza (one as far back as 2013) and how easy they are to make at home(and so much better than bought) and one about your pizza oven came up as suggestions. You have had this thought before, lol!

I saw those links too and checked out the pizza oven one. Just need to learn how to freeze-dry some of those cheeses!

What cheese do you like? I make phenomenal home made pizza, too, and prefer it over chain bought.

I know lots of folks don’t like Cici’s but I LOVE their alfredo pizza and the yummy cinnamon rolls! It’s just me and that’s a lotta pizza and cinnamon rolls for one but I’ll eat it a couple of days then pitch the rest. Sounds good for tonite!

Sherrill, the alfredo pizza at Cici’s is my favorite, too. I also like the salad, fudgy brownies and apple dessert pizza.

The story of my life–if we want pizza, I make it–the nearest pizza place in Montana is 22 miles, the nearest in Arizona is 30+!

Forgot–do you ever use the Artisan Bread In Five Minutes A Day recipes any more? I keep some in the refrigerator most weeks and use that dough for pizza.

I don’t make my own, and I doubt I ever will, but we have an Italian place that makes pizza just the way I like it. We usually have pizza once a week, but we got away from it this fall. We’ll get back to it, I’m sure. A good friend of mine makes her own because it has to be gluten free for her. Now her children won’t eat other kinds of pizza. =)

My son is a driver for a local better quality pizza place, but we don’t buy from them very often. He’s funny because while he loves their pizza, a competitor place makes a pretty good pizza too and they often have a really good deal so sometimes he strolls in after work with a competitor’s pizza in hand. I’ve tried different pre-made crusts, I’m not overly picky so will tolerate many (including Pillsbury’s pop-open tube one). I like bbq sauce now as my base or just some olive oil and garlic, then load it with the cheeses, meats & other toppings, especially really thin sliced onion which goes on top and gets browned nicely. When I get my ‘new kitchen’ and a real oven, I may make my dough from scratch again…it’s been a very long time!

We do a deep dish pizza in our cast iron skillets. 8 or 12 inch depending on how hungry we are.
