Late this afternoon, my phone rang. It showed up as being AT&T Customer Care and even showed their number. I answered it and it was a record . . sounded very professional. They said something about needing to update something and I hung up. It just didn’t seem right that they were calling because our credit card info has not changed, nor has anything else that should concern AT&T.
I called back . . dialing the number from my contacts and they checked and said they had not tried to contact us and that they are having problems with that happening.
Be aware of anyone who calls you asking for any kind of info. I almost always just hang up and then call back whomever it is that is supposed to be calling but if I am not sure that’s the thing to do, I’ll say “My husband handles all this and I’ll have to get him to call you back.” They will never leave their number and either say they’ll call us back or they just hang up.
This time of year it may be worse . . people needing credit card numbers and knowing people are busy and rushed so please be careful!

Don’t you just get disgusted with people that aren’t embarrassed over bilking people out of their hard-earned money??!!! I will never understand people without a conscience. Disgusting!

I hang up, check the number on ‘reverse number lookup’ and if it shows high probability of being spam, I block that number. Obviously I have lots of blocked numbers now….

And they are getting sneaky by using numbers of friends or numbers starting with our area codes and first prefix!! If I don’t recognize them, I don’t even answer. If it is important they will leave a message!!

They have ways of spoofing numbers so your phone says it’s a particular number, but it isn’t really that number! They can even use YOUR number to call someone. I know because the week someone called me, I called back and left a message asking they not call me again. A woman called back and said she hadn’t called me (and I could hear her baby crying in the background, so I think she hadn’t). Not two days later, someone called ME and asked me not to call them any more! So they can spoof anyone’s number. I answer all of them and then hang up before they can say anything, turn on the recorder, or leave a message. I don’t want them to know it’s a real number, if I can help it.

We received a call the other day. It was me calling myself at the same number I answered. Now how did I do that? LOL They left a message about signing up for health care. Sheeeze. AARP recommends that you don’t answer any calls that you do not recognize.

This past week my caller ID has been showing calls from AT&T and DirecTV, both of which we have, but even if they were legit (which I’ve doubted as they never leave a message) I’m not changing anything in regards to my service. We get legitimate snail mail from the real entities and that’s bad enough. Probably time to actually block as someone else says she does. It’s rare that I answer my landline; I’ve even turned the ringers off but can’t figure out how to turn the ringer off through the printer connection (for fax purposes). The new normal of modern life with phones and scammers. Oh, and our number is both unlisted and on the DNC list, hah! like that matters :/

At 3:05 a.m. today a phone call jarred me out of a sound sleep. The caller ID said it was a telemarketer. What next?

A couple of weeks ago there was a call from an 807 area code I hit the side button on my IPhone 6 which I guess ends the call but they left a voice, the voice on the other end was a male whispering something we couldn’t really understand but the last part sounded like “I’ll kick their A_S” they are getting brave.

There is an IRS scam going around saying they are going to arrest you if you don’t pay up (recording) in a woman’s voice. I called them back and they stated they were the IRS (in a foreign voice) -I laughed and said no you aren’t as I am sitting in the IRS building and you arent them .. DO not call me again … They hung up before I could finish the last sentence.
