Last night we were watching TV and at the beginning of the movie, there was a house. Vince said “I’d buy a house like that!” I wasn’t watching so I started yelling “Back it up!’ I jumped up to take a picture.
I jumped up and took a picture of the TV. I said “I can find a house like that! Realtor.com . . here I come!
The first house I found that looked kinda like that . . I showed it to Vince and he said “NO! That’s a two story house.” Hmm . . the picture you said you liked was a two story house. His response: “It didn’t look two story to me.” What do you think?
The second house I found, he said “The neighbors are too close.” I said “The house you liked had close neighbors.” He said “I thought it looked like it was out in the country.” I see a house next door. Anyone else see it?
There .. you see why finding a house to buy is so difficult?

It does look like a 2 story to me and I think there was one like it in Grumpy Old Men!!

Definitely two story, definitely close neighbors, and definitely understand! ??

It’s a Craftsman Bungalow. I live in one like it on a street with many of them, which are all over Northern California. Sometimes there is an attic room there, sometimes the foundations have been reinforced to make it a true 2nd story (a necessary structural issue in earthquake county) & sometimes it’s just an attic area with those little windows but no real floor. Alas, that is my situation. They are great homes in that the front porches tend to keep it cool in the summer and warm in the winter. Sometimes they have great features like pass through cupboards accessible from either the kitchen or the dining room, bookcases on either side of the fireplace, pucture rails, etc. My only complaint is a feature other people love: wooden wainscoting 3/4s up the walls. Can only hang smaller quilts, not full length ones.

LOL your conversation with Vince kind of sounds like my conversation with my husband.
Me: Where do you want to retire?
Him: Maybe Tennessee, maybe Pennsylvania. But I really like the Lake Wallenpaupak area of NY.
Me, Pennsylvania and NY get snow. . . . I thought you wanted to get away from snow.
Him: Well, yeah, but I love the lakes we’ve seen in Pennsylvania and NY.
Me: But you don’t like the lakes that are in Tennessee?
Him: Yeah, but our friends are here in NJ.
Me: So we are staying put?
Him: No, the property taxes here are too high and getting higher.
Me: So, where should I be looking?
Him: I don’t know. . . . let me think about it.
So, they are all alike. LOL
BTW, it looks like a 2 story to me and it looks too close to the neighbors for my taste. . . . but it is definitely not “out in the country”.
Thank you for the laugh.

I moved out of a two story house that is similar earlier this year. It was a great house for raising 4 children. Sat on an acre lot so yes we had next door neighbors. In fact it looks just like the one across the street that was built by the same person that built mine. A cousin built the houses for two sisters that wanted to be close to each other. One of them wasn’t even married. Large rooms, tall ceilings with wooden floors. Built in 1926.
You could just do as I did and wait until your husband fell and broke his neck. Realizing that the house wouldn’t suit either one of us if we were confined to a wheel chair I looked at the house my daughter wanted me to buy across the street from her two years before and started the process of buying it while he was still in rehab. Believe me the old house wouldn’t have worked even with a ramp up into the house. Had one small bathroom at the end of the hall way tucked in behind the staircase. Narrow door ways and awkward to maneuver in. New house is one story, has a side entrance next to the driveway that can be entered with no steps up, even though the front has 3 steep steps. All the doorways are extra wide and wonderful woodwork all through it. The old one will be on the market in the next week or two. Yeah! Took me this long to finish clearing out 44 years of living there and tossing junk and sending stuff to good will. Our future was moved months ago but packing up my sewing room alone was a nightmare.

I see the neighbors! I think that house must have a basement?? Also the second floor looks like an attic that has been redone to have a 2nd floor??

I agree with Cynthia, it looks like a Craftsman house. Very comfortable, with a front porch and back porch, which is good for air circulation, lots of wood inside, wainscoating and woodwork, passthroughs and not necessarily a 2nd floor. Lots of charm.

Best of luck finding that perfect house. =) Or any perfect house. I wonder what he’d say if you showed him a picture of the house you live in! LOL
Rebecca in SoCal says
Yup, looks like a second floor. And even if those buildings to the right are outbuildings rather than neighbors, I see a roof RIGHT behind the house! That’s not country!
