What a surprise . . I feel like I made good decisions twice yesterday! First, the Black Friday sales. I really am proud of myself for not buying much yarn. Second, the 2018 Gift-Along started last night. The way that works — there are 8 categories, such as head (hats), arms and hands (gloves, mittens), etc. From last night, til the end of the year, you make something in every category if you can. From last night through the 29th, some of the designers have some of their patterns 25% off. It really is a big deal in the knitting community – especially the Ravelry community.
Last year I did it but didn’t only finished things in a few categories.
Over the past few days, the designers have been listed and have been posting their patterns that are part of the GAL. I’ve sat down and gone through 349 designers. I’ve made lists of the patterns I want to buy and make. Last night was the official start time when we could start knitting and start getting the discount on the patterns.
Just before I started buying patterns, I said WAIT! There are so many project I want to make. I don’t need to be making projects just to enter a contest. I’ll be gone a big chunk of December. I have a unicorn sweater to finish. No, No, No! I’m not taking on any more deadlines. Maybe next year but not this year.
It really felt good to say no, to close the computer and get back to the projects I want to finish!
I may not be totally “fixed” yet, but I’m feeling good about my decisions.

Good for you! I did the same thing with quilting last year and this year I’m eliminating lots of rug hooking projects. That’s right….no additional quilting or rug hooking projects. I could work on what I have here for a good three to five years. I like the idea of saving money this year.

Yea for Judy!!! As you know I kind of lost my quilting desire a couple years ago. When I started to think I might want to piece/quilt again I made myself a promise–no new fabric/patterns/projects until I finish ALL the projects I had purchased. I’m not like most quilters (AKA you! 🙂 ) –I never bought a huge stash, just projects complete with patterns, etc. So far I’ve kept that promise to myself–I have purchased a little fabric/wool to finish a project but most of what I’ve started has come from my stash. That box of projects travels from Montana to Arizona and back again each year–working on a house sure limits any time I might have for sewing!!

I did the same thing – didn’t even look at the Indie GAL bundles because I’ve got so many other things I want to make.

WOW you are really doing a good job of saying no!! I don’t know if I could be that good!! We just went to Walmart to buy chewing gum and came home with a new TV for our bedroom! We got a 40″ Vizio for $198. I thought that was a great buy for a smart TV!

Judy, that’s huge! I think it’s easier to say no the second time, don’t you? =)

Good for you, Judy! Especially after putting some time and effort. Here’s another (virtual) pat on the back for you. Happy knitting.
