Through the year, I pick up little things for Addie. Some of them go into a box that will be used for her advent box and some of them I send to her because she loves getting packages. Who doesn’t? Maybe I should rephrase that . . it was a lot more fun getting packages when someone wasn’t home seeing everything that came into the house!
Yesterday I spread out all the little surprises I’d been accumulating for her and decided the order in which she should open them. I tried to plan anything that required Nicole’s help or supervision so she would open those on weekends. On the night Addie has gymnastics, things are hectic so I planned more relaxing presents for those nights .. not something like a Barbie outfit that would require dragging out multiple Barbie dolls. The ones that I wanted to see her open, I numbered those for when I would be there.
In previous years, she wasn’t in school, Nicole wasn’t working and Addie didn’t have gymnastics so I didn’t have to put any thought into the numbering of the packages.
They’re all wrapped now and ready to mail. Nicole said they aren’t putting their tree up til after Thanksgiving so I’ll wait til Friday after Thanksgiving to mail the box.
Here’s my list:
- Unicorn Tree Ornament
- Crafty set – foam-ish penguins that make a Christmas scene
- Christmas activity tablet
- Rudolph bandaids
- Christmas erasers
- Christmas stickers
- Gingerbread house (cardboard – not the kind that gets icing)
- Cookie mix with Christmas baking mitt
- Glitter collection
- Notepad and Pen
- Barbie shoes
- Wooden reindeer to color
- Christmas pencils
- Book – I Love Pink
- Barbie Shoes
- Sushi (candy)
- Christmas washcloth that expands in water
- Emoji bandaids
- Shopkins small treasure box
- Book – Shy Little Kitten
- Ice Cream Topping (I’ll be there to buy ice cream)
- Nail Polish
- Book – All About Unicorns
- Barbie Clothes
Now . . it’s time to start collecting stuff for Christmas, 2019. I still can’t believe I’m finally getting to spend Christmas with her/them.

I’m happy for you getting to be at their house for Christmas! Is Vince going along, too? Oh…I looked at the list of your advent gifts and didn’t notice a unicorn vibrator. Is that for Christmas!!?!!

Okay, I am officially jealous! I need YOU to be MY fairy Grandmother…

I wish I was half as good a grandmother as you are. You are definitely raising the bar for the rest of us. Addie is a lucky little sweetie.

That someone seeing the packages….I know what you mean. My retiree sees it as his job to know & ask questions about everything I receive, (makes a special trip to the PO every day just to make sure he knows what came in the mail) everywhere I go, everything I do. This after all those years of being on my own all those years, especially when the kids were in school all day & after they left home. He’s probably lucky to be alive.
Addie’s going to love opening all those packages!

Yes, that someone being home does effect package arrivals! And not only those coming by delivery! I try to pick up things through the year for stockings, this year 19. Some years it’s easier than others and I would like to make a change but know stockings would be missed. Our sons are as anxious to see what surprises they hold as their sons. Your advent idea is sweet, especially when you wouldn’t be together for Christmas. I surely hope she gets that unicorn ‘vibrator’.

Isn’t it fun to do this! I used to do it when the kids were home, but it is up to them to do that for their grands now.

His toys are MUCH more expensive than mine and more frequent. So he never says anything about my packages.

That sounds like so much fun for Addie! You are a terrific grandma.
