Do not ask me why I do things like this. I have no idea. I absolutely love this Leftovers Cowl project. If I saw someone on the street wearing this, I would stop them and talk to them about it. That’s how much I love it.
Yet, I started it in February, 2015 . . which will soon be four years ago. I knitted 7 rows and put it aside. Why? Oh, I forgot, you can’t ask me that so I shouldn’t ask myself that.
So, after knitting 7 rows in February, 2015, the project sat idle til December, 2017 and then I got crackin’ and over a five day period, I knit about 90 rows.
Then, who knows what I did because I haven’t touched it much in the past year but when I did pick it up, it looks like I started going the wrong direction (from Row 51 down) on Chart B, where I should have gone back to Chart A and started on Row 1 so I’m going to finish the section I’m on now, then go back to Chart A and start over. This cowl is busy enough that it will never show that I made that screw up.
If you look near the top, you’ll see the section that’s kinda periwinkle with a dark purple design, then on top of that is the red and pink. The red and pink should have been the last section of Chart B, but then I went back and did the yellow/red section which is two sections under the periwinkle/purple section. Why? I have no clue but it will be fine. Even though it’s only four rows, I am not ripping it out.
I’ve timed myself and it takes about 10 minutes to make a row so the 50/51 row charts (A and B), should each take about 500 minutes or 8.33 hours. I’m figuring more like 10 hours to knit each chart, by the time I have to stop and choose yarn and get a few interruptions. I think realistically I can knit 25 rows per day. That’s close to 4.5 hours of knitting each day.
I’m not even going to calculate how many days of knitting it would take to finish this project . . because I’m afraid of the answer but I would love to be finished with this by Christmas.

It’s still pretty, and I don’t think anyone will ever come up to you and say, “Oh, you went the wrong way on the charts, didn’t you?” Probably not even the designer!

I’ve been looking at this pattern for the last year debating on whether or not to buy it. Decided to go ahead and take the plunge when I caught the dyeing bug. Went to Ravelry to buy it, and I already had it! (That’s how I know I follow your lead way too often- I bought it when you first mentioned it way back when, and didn’t have the confidence to start it! ?) the plan is to dye my own coordinted mini skeins to make it and dye a ton of colors to play with dye recipes. Ordering a bulk pack of bare merino/cashmere/nylon superwash at the end of the week, so I doubt I will have it done for this winter, but I will have it for next!

I doubt anyone can see anything wrong with it. I can’t! People who don’t knit will not even know and a lot of people who do knit will not know. It looks like the pattern is supposed to be that way! This is how I learn the most! Ripping out and starting over! LOL

I bought this pattern when Wendy first came out with it. I think within the next few months I’ll have a good supply of leftover fingering to be able to start it. Problem is I never wear cowls (or shawls)! I have knitted so many cowls and shawls and there’s a limit to how people there are to give things away to! The only advantage is the satisfaction of the knitting.

Since you said you goofed, I looked carefully and think I see a design repeated (gasp). However, with the variety of designs and colors, I don’t think doing things in a different order will make one bit of difference. It’s like a kaleidoscope; you just twisted it a different way!

I’m guessing you got sidetracked by another “new and shiny” pattern. Congrats on getting back to this.

Your knitting finishes reminded me that i really like the look of The Leftovers Cowl. So I took the polarbear plunge and setup a Ravelry account. Then started adding things that I’ve admired from your blog 🙂
