First, there are no new houses on the market. Today I told Nicole “I am going to hit refresh and I KNOW there’s going to be a new listing that I can see!” Nope . . I was wrong.
Second, I’ve mentioned the Cheeseburger Mac & Cheese a couple of times. I made it when I first got here and used two pounds of ground beef because one pound seemed like it wasn’t enough. I think 1.5 pounds would be about perfect. Addie LOVES it! It is all she wants . . every night she wants the cheeseburger mac & cheese. After I made it the first time, I had told Nicole about it and made it so when I made it again, everyone was happy. It really is a great meal, especially for kids and tired grannies!
Third, I am NOT a fan of TV or kids playing on tablets but I did get Addie the Fire tablet a while back. Bed times are torture with her. She isn’t ready to stop, she begs for 10 more minutes and then 10 more minutes. A lot of it has to do with mom and dad being tired and giving in. Addie really needs to be close to going to sleep by 8 p.m. on school nights. I came up with the idea to have her in bed at 7:30 and let her play on her tablet til 8. We’ve done it for over a week now and so far, it seems to be working. She’s in bed, she has her “nest” built, she’s calming down and when either Nicole or I go in to tell her goodnight . time to turn the tablet off, she turns it off, tells us goodnight and is asleep in a flash.
Lastly, and I hope Vince isn’t reading this . . I do not like cold weather! It was cold enough this morning that I had to scrape my windows before I could take Addie to school. Once we have a house here, we’ll have boots and gloves and heavy coats and a garage so the car isn’t sitting out but if I were here in January or February, I might be questioning my sanity about wanting to move here. On the other hand, for two days, it was colder at home than it was here. Crazy weird weather. Vince said that at home, they’re probably getting their entire annual rainfall in one week. I think he said as of Sunday at 12:01 a.m., when our rain gauge re-set itself, he’s had close to 7″ of rain and it’s supposed to rain through Friday.
Lots of flooding around our part of Texas right now . . sad to see it on the news. Hard to fathom that a place that gets so little rain can get so much all at once!

You weren’t here for our 3 500 year floods within 4 years!! On one of those occasions the water was going 8 ft over the spillway. You know where the traffic light is on Main and Baker streets? The water was past there in the first one and the road was closed there. You couldn’t get in to BWD from any road other than the one you live on and the one from Brady. The water was up to the bottom of the bridge on 279. It was up past Cullen’s on 377 and from Bangs the road was closed right near Stanley Dodge. The foot of the hill going out toward Cross Plains was where the water went to in that direction. Underwood’s had about 3 ft. of water inside it! The GM dealer was too lazy to move his new cars from his lot where CVS is now. The water was over the top of them! All those brand new cars were destroyed, no way to sell them. The other dealers took their cars to downtown where it didn’t flood! I worked at TU Electric at the time. It was a mess!! They could only drive those huge trucks from the National Guard down the streets to make sure people were ok and out of the flood. They evacuated the motels all along that street and took them to the Coliseum! But our city did a great job of making sure everyone was ok. Then a year later we had another one not quite as bad and the next one was not as bad as the other 2. Wouldn’t be surprised to see it again with this rain. The first one we got 16″ in less than 2 hours. Right now it is still raining, has been all day yesterday and today. It is 46 here now but with the cold rain the wind chill is in the 30’s! Thank goodness you will not be driving in this!!

Texas isn’t the only place getting lots of rain. For the first 15 days of October, Phoenix has had more than 8 inches of rain, just a tad bit under what is usually the amount we receive in an entire year. So far October is the wettest October we have ever had. We desperately need this rain, but I am tired of it. It is also very cold for this time of year. Average temps should be about 89. We’ve been in the low 70s and I don’t think we even go to the high 60s today (at least at my house). I have turned into a real wimp and I’m freezing!

Thats how I handle bedtime, too. Except its 7:30 with a book and lights out by 8. I confiscated my daughters tablet in June and she isnt getting it back. Now, she will do crafts, color, bake, etc. When she has the tablet, she is mouthy and wont do anything.

I had read last week that it was going to rain for days in your town, and I guess it is! But you are missing it. =) Instead, you are a little cold. That’s temporary!

My son was like addie at bedtime so we tried letting him read in bed for 30 minutes then lights out. It worked like a charm. Also he developed a love of reading that he has today.

The Old Farmer’s Almanac predicted heavy rain for October.
My daughter had to be in bed by 8 with a book and lights out at 8:30. As she got older 30 minutes was added each couple of years. No caffeine or major sugar consumption before bed. She told me later that she did not go to sleep sometimes but I knew she was resting.

Bedtime deal around here was everything off and only books at 7:30 for everyone – Mum and Dad included. Worked great when they were little and need help reading. Eventually, it was just them reading in their rooms until lights out time.
