Monday when Addie and I were going to Joplin, the radio was on in the car and Shania Twain’s song “Feel Like a Woman” was on and Addie knew every word of it. I was thinking . . how much radio does she listen to and then I remembered that kids that age remember everything! They don’t even have a radio in the house. My car radio is on the local country station and I wasn’t even paying attention to what was on yesterday coming home from school til I noticed Addie singing every word . . like really getting into it. The song is “Drunk Girl“. Hmm . . I’m not sure what to think. No need to be the crazy old granny and interfere. The song is on the mainstream country music radio and, I can see how there’s some redeeming words in there but still . . not a song for a 6 year old. Then I remembered that when Chad was a bit younger than Addie when he knew every word to Achy Breaky Heart and danced quite a jig when he sang it.
Last night I told her I had a song to play for her and played Pat Green’s Girls from Texas. I told her to tell me when she knew what it was and it just took a second before she smiled and started singing.
Then I played Perfect by Ed Sheeran with Andrea Bocceli. She told me Nicole’s sister has that one in her car and then she wanted to hear it again.
Maybe there’s hope for her taste in music. I was going to say “maybe Granny needs to be here more” but it was on my car radio where she heard Drunk Girl but it definitely was not the first time she heard it but it was my first time to hear it!

I can still sing the songs I heard at six, but not many of today’s songs. I sure do love the Sherran/ Bocceli song, PERFECT!

My kids song right now is God is Great, Beer is Good, People are Crazy by Billy Currington. They can sing the chorus over and over again. My son also loves the National Anthem. It’s broken when he sings it, but he sings it a lot.

My daughter lives in Nashville and we live in Oregon. 5 years ago when our TN granddaughter was born we bought a townhouse there. It’s the best decision we ever made. It’s not ideal but the HOA covers all the outside maintenance and it’s really turn key for us. I wish it was bigger, I wish it was a single level, I wish it had a gas stove 😉
But we get to spend 1/2 our time there and our granddaughter there and 2 grands here get equal time. The only hard part is ALL 3 of the ask “When are you coming home?” when we are in the other place.
You’ll not regret making that decision when you do.

When my son was in Elementary, he wore a cowboy hat to school one day and sang “Beer for my Horses” to his class. Needless to say, the teacher wasn’t thrilled… but we thought it was hilarious! LOL

You need to start playing some classical music for her.

At least she’s not singing “Tequila Makes Her Clothes Fall Off”. LOL

I understand … I heard Pink sing a song and all 3 of my granddaughters knew it by heart (B*tch) I was floored… But I didn’t want to censor what they listen to so I let the CD play all the way thru then put in one of my cd’s.

She sings the words but does she know the meanings of the words in the songs? Sometimes the tunes are catchy and they pick them up. We had a friend whose son liked Sneaky Snake! He sang it all the time,

I actually like the message in “Take A Drunk Girl Home”…much better than the message my greatgrands know from the music of their parents!
Ahhhh…each generation has a fit with the music, doesn’t it?!
Soak up every second. I love sharing in your adventures!

Music … always a generational difference. Sometimes I listen to Sixties on 6 on Sirius, and I’ll hear a song and realize I was so innocent I didn’t know what the words meant, or didn’t pick up on double entendre. Now I’m horrified I sang and listened to some of it! LOL
