I don’t even know how to explain my excitement about this knitting experience with Suzanne Bryan. You know I’m seldom at a loss for words but after listening to a live video she did on Youtube tonight, I’m just amazed at her knowledge of knitting. Amazed! Like sitting here with my mouth open and saying “I never knew that!” dozens of times during a 45 minute or so video.
For those of you who are not doing her It Takes a Guild KAL/lessons, you can still watch her videos on her youtube channel.
As a quilter, I remember this same euphoric feeling when I left my first Jinny Beyer class. Ms. Beyer was the most knowledgeable, enthusiastic, interesting quilt instructor I ever had the pleasure of meeting. I took her class at one of Martha Pullen’s quilt seminars in Alabama. I walked away from that class feeling that my quilting . . my actual quilting and my attitude about quilting, would never be the same.
That’s what Suzanne Bryan’s knitting lessons are doing for me. When I saw that it was going to cost $25 to get the pattern, and her instructions, I hesitated. Knowing what I know now and really, we’ve just had a few teasers so far, I would gladly have paid way more for this information.
I tend to get overly enthusiastic about most everything I do (freeze dryer, chickens, garden, etc.). I love knitting but learning from Suzanne Bryan has me so excited. Can you tell? I’m so glad she’s sharing so much of her knowledge.
Suzanne is probably younger than I am but watching her, I can’t help but think of my grandma. She was so smart in so many ways. She knew how to do things I’ll never know how to do and I’m still sad that she passed away and all that knowledge, everything she had not shared with someone else . . all that knowledge ceased to exist when my grandma passed away. I wish I could ask her questions now. I have wished a million times that I could get help from her in so many ways.
In the end, what good is knowledge if it isn’t shared. I’m so grateful Suzanne is sharing her knowledge and I’m so grateful I came across this on Ravelry. I encourage you, if you have an interest in knitting or if you know someone who does, go to Suzanne’s Youtube channel and watch some of those videos or share the link with your knitting friends. There is a wealth of information there and everything I have learned so far, I have never heard or read from anyone else.

I had the book, bought access to the pattern and lessons yesterday, and bought yarn today. I’m really looking forward to the release on the 4th! I’ve been knitting away on my Guernsey Triangle Shawl every minute I can get so I am ready to start as soon as the first clue is released. All this to say- you’re not alone! And thank you for bringing the “experience” to my attention!

I often wish I had asked someone about something while I still had the chance. Today, I was working with my grandmother’s family. She died when I was two and I never met her. I wish so much I had asked my dad about her, about growing up with her, about funny habits she had, what she liked to cook or do or just anything so I would know her a little bit. I can empathize with your desire to ask your grandmother so many things. It’s not until we get to a certain point that we even think of those things! There are so many people I would ask things now that I’m at this point in my life, but they are gone.

I mean I was working with her family history and genealogy – pieces of paper, not real people. =)
