Today is the day the baby chicks might start hatching but more likely tomorrow. I went out to check to see if we have any babies. I asked Vince if he wanted to go. No . . more mouths to feed. He is not excited about babies.
I got out there and that hen was not going to let me look under her.
Mean Mama Got Me!
Usually I can get my hand under her and lift her up before she gets me. Not today. The first time, I thought I just wasn’t fast enough. By the third time, I gave up and didn’t see if there were any babies or not.
Tomorrow, Vince is going out there with me or maybe I’ll wear my BBQ gloves that are thick all the way up to my elbow!
She’s a mean mama and she hurts when she grabs hold of a little piece of skin!

You can’t tell me you wouldn’t go to extreme measures to protect your babies. She’s just doing what comes naturally. Grab those gloves and sing her a sweet lullaby.
