These socks were finished last night!
Six months ago, in April, I started these socks. There’s no explanation I can give as to why it took six months to get them finished. One problem, though it was a problem of my own making, was the needles. In the beginning, I was using a 32″ ChiaGoo 2.75 mm needle. I make socks two at a time on one long circular needle using Magic Loop. There are all kinds of tutorials out there on how to do is. I have no idea which ones are best. Probably different videos for different folks so if you’re interested, find yourself a video and get started. It’s so very nice to be able to finish both socks at the same time and have them both exactly the same size.
Anyway, I started out with 32″ circular needles. Those are plenty big for most people but I prefer a 40″ for two at once socks. The probable reason for starting with a 32″ was that it was all I could find. It wasn’t impossible to knit two socks with that short of a cable but it was a bit frustrating. One day we started to go to Abilene and I was going to take these socks with me to work on in the car. I told myself . . no more struggling with that 32″ needle so I went to get a 40″, which is my preferred length. Could not find one anywhere. Vince was saying “Let’s GO!!” so I grabbed a 60″ HiyaHiya, which was the only 2.75 mm I could find at the moment. HiyaHiya cables are not my favorite cables to start with. 40″ of HiyaHiya cables is bad enough but 60″! No! Oh, my goodness. I could have knit 5 pairs of socks at once on that 60″ needle. It was a constant battle. I would get the socks tangled up with each other, the yarn tangled up, my shirt tangled up, the dog tangled up. It was pure hardheadedness that kept me from stopping and finding a 40″ needle.
These were the socks I was knitting on Tuesday with the group and they were all laughing at me because those cables stayed tangled around something the entire time I was knitting.
I’m so glad to have the finished socks off the needles and I’m glad to have these beautiful lime green socks to put in my sock drawer!
The pattern is Classic Socks for the Family, which is the very first pattern I ever used for making socks. The yarn is Blue Moon Fiber Arts Tigger Targhee. I seriously love that yarn for socks. The color is Zesty, which I’m afraid may be a discontinued color. Who would discontinue such a yummy color? Someone who knows way more than I do about yarn I suppose.

Your stories are always so entertaining! I can just imagine those cables wrapped around Rita while you’re trying to knit!

They look beautiful! Congratulations on finishing them! It feels good to get a project done – especially one that’s been sitting aside for awhile!
