This is my life! Some days I surprise myself with my organizing. Some days I surprise myself with my total lack of organization.
I mentioned yesterday that I had ordered some yarn from Wendy’s Wonders. I went back and looked my previous orders and was admiring the yarn and wanting to start another shawl with some of her yarn. I never had time go through the patterns and come up with a plan.
Yesterday evening when I was getting ready to block the yellow and blue shawl, I noticed something barely sticking out from under the pillow on the extra bed. I pulled it out and it was this:
You might notice the black spots on my chair. I sat on an ink pen! 🙁
I went through my Ravelry projects and found that this the Stargazing Shawl that I started in December, 2017. It was great that I had it on my project page.
On my project age I have listed two different beads that I was using. It was great that I listed the beads I was using.
I could not find the beads anywhere! Looked and looked, finally found one of them but never did find the other ones. Then, I was already in bed, wondering if the critter searching for a ham dinner was coming back and suddenly, out of nowhere . . I remembered that a container of beads had fallen behind the dresser. I keep my beads in little jars sitting on top of the dresser in the extra room. I got out of bed, went in there, had to use a flashlight and a clothes hanger to fish the jar from behind the dresser but, YES, it was the pink beads Too bad I had already ordered more of them but at least I don’t have to wait for the beads to arrive before working on the shawl. It’s not good that I didn’t have the beads with the project.
The pattern says you can make a small shawl with 3 repeats and a large shawl with 5 repeats. I have 4 repeats. After reading through the pattern, I found that there were 4 repeats for Chart 2 for the larger size. Not good that I didn’t make notes!
To make the larger one, I will need two skeins of yarn. On my project page, I show that I have two skeins of this yarn. There wasn’t another skein with the project. Not good that I don’t have everything together!
I did go to the Wendy’s Wonders tub and found the second skein. It’s good that I had the extra yarn where it was supposed to be.
In a perfectly organized household which we’re not . . I would put all the yarn together in a knitting bag as soon as I start a project. I would put the beads in the knitting bag and keep everything together. I would make meticulous notes on my project page as to what I was planning to do and, most importantly, I would NOT sit on an ink pen and get ink all over my butt and my chair!
But, the good news is . . everything is found, I have everything I need to get back to knitting on this project.

One of my knitting friends does exactly what you suggest. He has a knitting bag for each project with all the yarn, beads, etc. Then he has a huge row of pegs he hangs all the bags from. In the past, on whatever weird schedule he comes up with, he works a little on a project, hangs it back up and goes to the next. I’m not sure I’d have enough bags for all my projects, and then if I could find all the bags once I filled them…I’m bad about not keeping good notes either. The other night I pulled out a shawl that I had just barely started and I couldn’t find a row counter for it, so I was trying to figure out what row I was on…not fun! I did have a sticky note marking the line of the chart, but I wasn’t absolutely sure if it was the next row to be done or not. After counting a couple of times, I verified it was, but it indicated to me that it was way too long since I worked on it!

Try dabbing alcohol on a wash cloth and rubbing it on the chair. That should take most of the pen out.

I love reading your posts! You have a great sense of humor. That shawl is beautiful, and I’m glad you were able to locate all the components!

Just getting to your posts and saw the comment about the ink pen. Rubbing alcohol and a little elbow grease (and maybe a bit of Dawn later) will take out most of, if not all of the ink. Even red ink will be light enough to clean with some type of upholstery cleaner. Good luck!

The best thing is how pretty it is!
