You know how Vince can sniff out a bargain. I’ve never seen anyone who can find bargains like he does.
Here’s our receipt from the grocery store yesterday. We spent $81.47 and saved $75.45. Sweet onions were on sale so I bought some of those to freeze dry. We love those things! But the big find was school supplies. They had big three and five subject notebooks for $1. They had nice pens for a bit over $1.
Vince was happy . . he had gotten deals!
I use the heck out of five subject notebooks. I keep one by my chair. One section is for knitting notes. One section is for grocery/shopping lists. One section is for things to do. One section is just for taking notes and scribbling . . talking to the insurance company and writing down what they say; making notes for blog posts I want to write . . just things that pass through my mind and I need to remember. The last section is usually for tearing out paper when I need a sheet of paper. Finding those big notebooks on sale makes me happy too!

We may be in our 50’s but HH and I still feel the excitement of new school supplies! Now a days, we sate the feeling by buying for the local schools’ supplies drives for needy families. I also stock up on Elmer’s Glue Sticks (glue basting seam allowances) as well as new pens and notebooks for the house. I once hit a $.10 sale on 3 subject notebooks and bought several cases! That kept us and the kids well supplied for a couple of years!

I do the same thing with notebooks and I keep them for reference–such as now what did I use as a password for this site????–I probably wrote it down in one of those notebooks. Mike on the other hand writes on little post it notes which he then leaves all over the place, loses, then asks me if I’ve seen his yellow note! 🙂

Collect them and put them on a dated page in a notebook!

I use an address book…..and write in pencil as we have to change them frequently

I have a spiral bound hard cover notebook that was part of a gift sometime in the past. That’s where I write down all my passwords and such. It has a few pages covered with genealogy notes, stuff like that. It’s in the basket next to my chair so it’s handy when I’m on the laptop. I’m thinking I need to write some of that in a smaller notebook to carry with me. Should something happen to my house while I’m gone I’d definitely be up a creek without a paddle.

The schools start in August here in OKC area, so the school sales are all during the month. I usually get notebooks, pens, and flash drives. I also buy enough for a year.
For passwords, I use an address book (written in pencil, of course) to record the user names, passwords, and security answers for various sites.
I hope you bought a lot of onions since they do last longer in a storeroom, awaiting processing than some of the other veggies that are on sale.

Even though I retired from teaching I still get excited when all the school supplies go on sale. Yes, I also stock up on my favorites.

When school supplies go on sale I try to hit up a Walmart for printer paper when it’s usually at it’s cheapest. Buying by the ream can be a little expensive otherwise.

It’s a good day when you’re happy about a shopping trip…Vince must have been pretty happy! Our two sons are both masterful with getting deals…the youngest (who is single) manages to make money from his deals. He profited $80 from two items the other day. He was pretty happy. Tax free money!

Sounds like everything was half price, almost, judging by spent/saved. =) Good deals!

It looks like there are a lot of us out there that are attracted to school supplies even though we’re out of school! I answered the siren song of the package of sharpie markers that came in a rainbow of colors a couple of weeks ago…they’re just too fun! I also have multiple small notebooks (about 1/2 the size of the regular school notebooks). I use one for knitting notes and another one for weaving notes and ideas. I think I have a third one with bobbin lace notes…we won’t talk about pens…LOL
