I have five broody hens and thankfully only one of them gets really angry and vocal when I try to check for eggs under her.

I’ve given her 7 eggs to sit on. They’re marked so every day I check under her and take out the ones that aren’t marked. If I left her alone, she’d end up with 30 or more eggs under her by the time the eggs start to hatch. They wouldn’t all hatch but I certainly don’t need 30 baby chicks from one hen . . and then there are the other four that are sitting too. At least they’re nice and don’t make so much noise when I check under them.
It’s a good thing no one can hear her or they’d thing we were abusing her.
There are a couple of hens that would draw blood. So far, this one is more bark than bite but we’re only on Day 5 so she may well get worse as time goes on.
All in a day’s work for a chicken mama!

She definitely sounds irritated with you! When I was very little my grandparents raised chickens. I like to go out and “look” for eggs, but if there was a chicken anywhere near the nest, I wouldn’t touch the eggs. I was terrified of getting pecked by a mean old chicken.

Oh my, that low rumble coming from that black chicken was surprising! I didn’t know chickens made a sound like that. I’ve heard squawks and clucks and crows, but not a broody rumble. You’ve added to my online life experience!

Oh, my, she is not happy! So does this mean they are starting to lay more again?
