There are some things I should never share! This is one of those times.
First (not really part of the blog post), when I got to MO, we went out to Nicole’s parents. They lie out in the country and have cats and dogs and fleas and ticks. I had been walking through some tall weeds and when we got home, I found a tick on me. I told Nicole she needed to check Addie for ticks. Of course, Addie couldn’t stop talking about the ticks. She was getting ready to go to school the first day and she was scratching her arm. I said “Stop scratching!” She said “It’s those ticks!” She had not had a tick on her at all. I said “Addie, please don’t go to school and tell them that you have ticks!” She said “Sorry, Granny. We have no secrets!”
So . . I guess I have no secrets either.
I had planned to spend the night last night just this side of Oklahoma City. When I go, I drive straight through but coming back, I’m tired; I’ve usually cried and am ready to get off the road after getting through Oklahoma City. I was driving along, listening to my music, singing and . . dang it . . I totally passed my exit. It was 40 miles to the next exit. I figured if I was going to drive 40 miles to the exit and then 40 miles back to the hotel, that was 80 miles. I could drive 200 miles and be home so . . that’s what I did.
The trp did seem quicker but it was still right at 10 hours and I only stopped twice the whole trip where I usually stop three or four times.
Anyway . . I miss the kids already but I’m glad to be home. It was nice to sleep in my own bed. Their Speck sleeps in Addie’s room and Addie always wants me to sleep with her. I am not a light sleeper but every time Speck moves, the tags on his collar jingle and that woke me up.
I think I calculated that it’s 7 more weeks til I go back. I was trying to tell Addie that I would be back before too long and she said “every day is too long!” I’m afraid I have to agree with her.

You must be exhausted, I wouldn’t be able to move for days after that long a journey! Hope you can get lots of rest.

So glad you are home safe. That is a long drive for one day. When we go to Big Bend we always stay in Ft. Stockton the first night. We don’t even leave Texas and the trip is longer than 10 hours if you go straight through.

How sweet that she wants you to be there so much! That is a lot of driving for one day, but your reasoning makes sense to me. =)

What a sweet thing for Addie to say. Glad you made it home safe. And OMGosh! what tough granny you are to drive 10 hours. My arms hurt just thinking about it. I drove 4 hours to Priddy (Quilts from the Heart retreat and quilt shop) to sew with friends in June and I was worn out. But it was a pretty drive.
