Both dresses have all the handwork done except the hem and the lace piece sewn on. The lace piece was just pinned on til Nicole’s sister looked at it and approved. She has now seen it and approved but the lace and hem on both dresses will happen when I get back.
I’m not going to say never but it will take something pretty special before I ever agree to make something like those dresses again. Give me 100% cotton fabric and I’m fine but that slinky, slippery, unravelling fabric . . nope!
This is the pattern I used . . mostly the dress on the left but I didn’t put the tucks in the bottom and I took out some of the fullness in the skirt.
The dresses were simple to make but the fabric . . and the zipper . . glad to be this close to being done.

Great job!! Reminds me of the dress I made for my granddaughter who was the flower girl in our daughter’s wedding…….that slippy material just doesn’t want to stay put :-).

I’ve heard that if you put a bath towel over the “table area” to the left of the sewing machine that it will help keep the slippery fabric up where you want it. The dresses look very lovely!

You did a great job. You feel about that fabric like I feel about sewing with Minkie – hate that stuff. It feels great but it shifts all over the place.

Chalk it up as a lesson learned. I do agree with you …..it does test the patience.

Any of the views are darling dresses. I would have loved seeing it in cotton lawn or eyelet over plain cotton. Easier to sew and so very elegant. I don’t like clothing made from slippery stuff – difficult to wear, to keep clean, to clean if you spill on it, and not that comfortable! Not much chance these will get a lot of wear, either, for all the money and effort spent. But you did what she wanted, and it will be beautiful!

Satin, minkee…all horrible to sew on. I’d pay to have it done but wouldn’t do it myself!! Ugh, you’re a good granny, mom, MIL, et al!!! You should get triple bonus points!! HA!

You should have heard my Mom when she made my wedding gown. Plus she was afraid the white satin would get dirty ! But she did a beautiful job.

If there is ever a next time, I recommend using a serger to encase each separate piece of the pattern to prevent fraying. Voice of experience here.
