I went to bed with Addie at 8:30 last night and went right to sleep. My phone was almost dead so I left it on the charger in the kitchen. When I got up this morning, Nicole said Vince called three times and Chad answered. Chad got in about 10:45 last night and was still sleeping when I got up. I figured if Vince called three times, something important was happening. I was going to wait til after 7 to call him back but he called me before then.
Last night he said he went to take Rita out about 10 p.m. He opened the back door, with Rita on a leash. There was a rattlesnake stretched right across the door opening. She stepped on it. Vince stepped over it. He didn’t see anything he could kill it with so he grabbed the thing he uses to clean the grill and was able to kill it with that, while holding Rita.
He said it took hours before he was able to go to sleep after that. He said from now on, we have to open the door and look for snakes right against the edge of the door. I said “I have a better idea! Move to MO.” He said “I knew you were going to say that. I even told Chad that’s what you were going to say!”
I told him . . I have an ever BETTER idea! I’ll just stay here. You can pack up the house, sell the house and, in the meantime, I’ll find a house here, buy it and move in! No . . not a good idea according to Vince.
But I’m thinking . . who has always moved ahead and left me behind to get things packed and show the house???
Then he tried to tell me there are snakes everywhere I want to move but . . have I ever had as many as I’ve had in Texas? No!

Aaaahhhh!!! on the rattlesnake, can not imagine that. Yup,yup, I’d be moving very soon, come up to Maine, no rattlesnakes, but no family either, so that wouldn’t work. : )

OMG! Thank God he was able to think fast and handle that safely! I would buy those pee pads for pets and have Rita pee on those in the house wrap it up in a zip lock at night I would be petrified! I am so thankful they both are safe! I would sell fast.. snakes are my biggest fear..

Judy, they often run in pairs, but you know that. Remind Vince! So there is another one around close by! If I could move where there are at least fewer snakes it would thrill me. During four years in East TX I saw one copperhead…on my patio at night.

Put some mothballs around the edge of your porch/house and the snakes will stay away.
