Yesterday was a huge day for Addie. You’d think she’d been waiting for 10 years for this day to arrive. After school, they got ice cream and went by to see her great grandparents and by the time they got home, she was exhausted and grumpy! Look at her wrong and she was whining . . so unlike Addie. It was about 4:30, a bit late for a nap but Nicole said “You are taking a nap!” She was asleep in about 5 seconds and slept over an hour. Nicole woke her up because she didn’t think she’d sleep through the night. Addie was happy and bubbly again and since she had a nap, Nicole let her stay up a bit past the 8:30 bedtime. When I went to bed about 11, she flipped over and said “I’ve been waiting for you to come to bed!” I didn’t know if she really had or if I woke her when I walked in but I wasn’t sure how she was going to feel about getting up at 6:30.
When I woke her, I said “Wake up! Wake up! Today is your second day of kindergarten!” She sat up, rubbed her eyes and said “I’m so happy it’s morning and I get to go to school again!” I thought . . I hope you feel this way for the next 13 years!
She told me they had Goldfish crackers for their snack yesterday. The teacher provided snacks yesterday and today but starting next week, the students each have a day to bring snacks. I bought Goldfish crackers yesterday for Addie’s snack, of course, not knowing that’s what the teacher had yesterday. It’s a couple of weeks before Addie’s turn to bring snacks so she was really excited that she was bringing the same snack as the teacher had given them. She said they had a choice of chocolate milk, white milk or strawberry milk and she had strawberry milk.
When she first got home yesterday, I said “Tell me all about your first day” and she said “I can’t remember”. Once she was in bed and I was reading her a story, she started telling me things that had happened. I’m hoping today she won’t be so tired when she gets home and she’ll talk to us more about her day.
I’m so thankful to have been able to come here and be here for her first couple of weeks of kindergarten.

This week has been a dream come true for any grandma.

Ask Addie specific questions when she gets home. What does your teacher do first? Who did you sit by at lunch? It will trigger what happened and she will remember and probably give you a play by play for the day. It is wonderful when kids enjoy school!

She was tired yesterday and was not much in a mood for being questioned. Everything I asked, I got “I don’t remember”. She does better talking about it when she wants to talk, then I can ask her a few questions and get answers.

They don’t have all day kindergarten where I live. Seems like it would make those young ones awfully tired. I wonder if they get a short nap at school maybe in the afternoon? It’s nice that she loves school though!

One of our sons was so anxious to start school, excited! He would go off with the neighbors and in little time he was back home on his own. We were about 3/4 a block and across the street from the schoolyard. “They haven’t taught me anything I don’t know yet”, was always his excuse. Off he’d go the next morning, repeat. Teacher and I tried a number of things

Hit the wrong button! Eventually he decided he had better stay at school! Once he settled in, he was talking about his day the minute he hit the door, went through whole day in order. Kept that up most of the way through his education; wish he was still that much of a sharer!

Yesterday was exciting and exhausting, especially with the after-school activities. I’ll bet today was MUCH better!
