This evening was the day for meeting Addie’s teacher, the principal, the lunch room ladies. Chad and Nicole handled it well. I fought back tears the entire time we were there. For a small town, there were an amazing number of kids there – just kindergarten and first grade! Where do all these kids come from? I mean — technically . . I do know where kids come from but I was surprised there were that many here in this town.
We met Addie’s teacher and oh, am I impressed! She seemed so nice and she was so sweet and she is very pretty – thin and fit. So many of the little first graders came by to see her, hug her, tell her about their summer. She took time to hug each child and talk to them. I’m so happy with her.
I think she’s going to have a fantastic kindergarten year. Nicole and I signed up to help with parties and I have the date for Breakfast with Grandma. I’m ready for kindergarten to begin!

Oh, the memories! One grandson will be graduating in two years and the other will start kindergarten in 3 years….I got to do all the fun stuff with the 16-year old until he was in the middle of first grade. Then his mother took him to Michigan, so we only got to see him one weekend a month and only 6 weeks of the entire summer. Now he’s working so we haven’t seen him since Christmas. Enjoy it while you can!

Did Addie talk to the teacher? I’m wondering if she’s just shy around men

Is it usual that kids start kindergarten at age 6 there? Just wondering as they start at age 4 here. I’m sure she’ll do really well as she is so mature and definitely seems ready for school.

They definitely don’t start at 4 here. That means they’ll be 5 in first grade. I don’t think we’ve ever lived where 4 year olds start kindergarten. Here, they have to be 5 by August 1 to start kindergarten and Addie missed it by just a few days so she’s 6 by just a week when she’s starting.

Addie look is so happy! It sounds like things went very well and that she has a great teacher – hurray! And you’re already signed up to help and for breakfast….I think Vince needs to get on board with moving closer to the kids! 😀

Some schools have Pre-K and that’s for the 4 year and usually just for half days. Addie will do great! She will be a joy to have in the classroom and likely be a teacher’s helper at some point.

Just curious – how many kids in Addie’s class? When I taught kindergarten, I always had the max – 28. i loved teaching Kindergarten – the kids love learning, they love you, the parents love you. But its exhausting. So I moved up to high school!!
I bet Addie will do just fine. She has involved parents (and granny). That makes all the difference

It is hard on us when they grow up and it seems like once they start it goes so fast! Enjoy every minute of it!

We moved here in time to be here for our youngest grandson’s first day of kindergarten. He hadn’t been to preschool so it was a big deal and he didn’t want any part of it. Our son carried him onto the bus the first day and his mother had a couple times of doing that within the first week, too. He is at the first bus stop and has to ride an hour each way even though the school is not actually that far away. Fortunately, he really took to the bus driver and the bus driver loves him (gave him a birthday card and gift on the last day of school last year). Well, Trace started 2nd grade this week and boy were we worried that Mr. Vickers wouldn’t be the bus driver. Trace said he wouldn’t get on the bus if it wasn’t Mr. Vickers. Both he and Aubrey were so excited to see Mr. Vickers waving to them! We bake goodies for Mr. Vickers and he has been so good for Trace. (In spite of the fact that they put Trace on the wrong bus the first day of school–his mother and I were freaked out but he just road the bus back to school and his parents picked him up. Anyway, teachers and even bus drivers make a big impact when kids leave home for the first time. Trace seems to have another wonderful teacher this year so he is thriving. Hope Addie loves school. Odds are good she will because girls usually love school and boys love recess. Glad you were there, Grandma!

Looks like things are off to a good start! The fact that previous students came to talk to her is a good sign.
