I made it to MO but for a while, I thought I might not make it.
The plan was that I would leave today but when Vince looked at the forecast, he said the weather might be really bad today so I left yesterday, even though we knew I’d probably run into rain . . just not as bad as today.
Driving through Oklahoma City and Tulsa scares me on a good day. Wouldn’t you know it . . bright sunny skies til right before I got to OKC and the bottom fell out. I happened to take my eyes off the road for just a second and saw that my tire pressure light was on. Great! I had no idea where to get it checked on a Sunday. I passed up a couple of exits and then, for no reason, took the third one. I pulled into a 7-11 that had lots of cars out getting as so I felt pretty safe. I got out to look at my tires. A very nice man had just gotten back into his pickup. I opened his door and said “Do you need help?” I said “My tire pressure light just came on and it doesn’t tell me which tire is having a problem.” That man had a tire pressure gauge on his key ring. I have on in my car but I figured if a tire was low enough for the light to come on, I could probably see it. He said my tires all looked fine to him but go to a Walmart and see if they got the same reading.
I went to Walmart and some really old man hobbled out. I told him what was happening. He said “I’ll put some air in.” He didn’t look at the door for the recommended air pressure but just added air to all of them and said “That should do it!” I wasn’t real thrilled but got back on the road, stopped a couple of times and looked at the tires, still didn’t see anything wrong.
Then when I got to Chad’s I stopped at Walmart to make sure all four tires still had the same amount of air. They did but the old guy in OKC had put 36 pounds of pressure in and they only needed 30. The guy at WM said he’d drop it down to 32 and if the light still didn’t reset, have Chad drop it down to 30 and if that didn’t fix it, I need to have the sensors changed.
I’m going to call Discount Tire today and see what they say. Addie is excited that we may get to go to Joplin . . Starbucks and sushi. Granny isn’t so excited about getting back on the road again but . . we do what we have to do.
Then .. the weather.
I cannot remember the last time I had to pull over because I couldn’t even see the front of my car because of the rain but I had to do it twice yesterday. In MO, there were so many people pulled over on the shoulder, I was almost completely out of the storm before I found a place on the shoulder I could pull over.
What a trip! I was even happier than normal to get off the road yesterday.

Geez glad you made it safely! Those storm clouds don’t look so good either! You are a trooper!

So, so happy you made it there safely! Enjoy your visit and all of the hugs.

What is a road trip without a little adventure? I actually call them Educational Moments. With heavier rains expected today aren’t you glad to be with family today.

Glad you made it safe. Hope they had rain at my brothers in Schell City.

So happy you are there safely…enjoy your visit!

Glad you made it up to MO, especially since the radar at 9 am is quite busy with heavy rains coming up from TX and moving along the highways towards MO.
In OK, the On-Cue and Love’s chain of gas stations are good places to stop. The On-Cue has every grade of fuel from 100% to E85 to diesel and CNG. Love’s and 7-11 are starting to upgrade to keep up with On-Cue. I’m glad that you got help but you have enough readers that you should have emergency phone numbers for friends along the way. I’ll send you my number for when you go back through OKC.
Have a great time with everyone!

So glad you made it safely. Do you have a spare tire? We had a car once that if the spare was low it would make the tire light come on. Took us forever to find that out!! At our house we have had just over 3 inches since Friday night.

I’m glad you made it safely. Mine does tell me which one, and it hasn’t been wrong yet, but the sensor may be preferable to tire replacement – or just ignore it if there’s no evidence of a bad tire. We drove for all our lives with no tire pressure sensors!

I know my comment is well after your post (I was gone a month with limited internet!), but don’t those low tire pressure sensors just drive you nuts? My ’06 Highlander has them. As some one else mentioned, often the light comes on if the spare has gone low. Once had my light come on after only a half hour into a 14-hour trip. Tires were not low, never became low, drove the entire trip with the light on. It has to manually be reset on mine, so does not go off with the correct pressure on its own. On my husband’s 4-Runner, his light is always on as the actual sensor within the tire (don’t ask me how it’s attached in there) is worn out so will always trigger a false reading. He just puts up with it as he doesn’t want to put out the money for a repair, and since it’s a convenience/peace-of-mind light, he isn’t concerned…just remains old-school and keeps an eye on his tires. Glad you’ve had such a great time spending time with your son and family, what a blessing.
