Reading stories to Addie sometimes cracks me up. She has comments about everything. She’s not much of a joker and takes everything so seriously. She worries about the characters. I would never read Bambi to her.
I started reading the first Little House on the Prairie book to her last night.
We got to the part talking about not having any glass in some of the windows. Addie sat up in bed and said “There’s a man you call and he comes to your house and fixes the windows! He has brand new glass! They need to call him!” She was so serious like she somehow wanted to get a message to those people that they CAN get their windows fixed.
When it was talking about hanging the deer in a tree . . Addie looked at me and said “They ‘posed to hang deer in the shop! That’s what my daddy does! Then he cuts it open . . ” Yes, papa’s shop has an area for cleaning deer. I don’t think they had that back in these days.
Then when I was reading about salting and smoking the meat for winter, I told her that there were no freezers. She had the funniest look on her face and she said “That is ONE CRAZY house!”
I began telling her that when I was her age, my grandparents didn’t have bathrooms. That resulted in putting the book down and having a lengthy discussion about life just a few years ago. We got through page 6 in the first book. I don’t think we’ll finish the series this trip! 🙂

Love the stories. Did you know that Laura Ingalls Wilder’s home and museum is located in Mansfield, Missouri- East of Springfield just off highway 60?

It is good that you can answer her questions. It is good that she questions things.

LOL, it’s great that she has questions and some answers, too. What delightful discussions you have ahead of you.

I loved that story. It’s said that each year Collage’s give student’s a test and to find out what they don’t know about. Most students today wouldn’t know what a pay phone is or remember when there was not cell phone’s or know about phones with rotary dials. Isn’t it fun to see things through a child’s eyes for a little while.
