There’s Hatch Chile everything in the grocery store.
On these color mornings, I want to go sit next to that roaster and knit . . listen to the peppers pop and smell them. I look so forward to August when they’re outside the grocery store every weekend.
There really is Hatch Chile everything in the store. Hatch chile apple pie. Hatch chile cornbread. Hatch chile bread. Hatch chile cheesecake. Hatch chile bagels. I kinda tried not to look because I didn’t want to tempt my resolve.
They have red and white. The lady told me that the red was a little hotter so we got that for us (don’t ask me why!) and the green is a little sweeter and not so hot. I got that to take to Chad’s.
I’m sure we’ll try it when I’m there so I’ll let you know how it is. On second thought, since I’m not a wine drinker, you probably don’t want my opinion.

Yes, here in eastern AZ we have the Hatch chile roasters going around town but we tried them once and they were way too hot for my palate – even the mild ones! We saw the chile wine when we were in NM last year but didn’t try it. But I do love the smell of the chiles roasting!

We had the Hatch chile roasters in CO, too…not so much here in Florida! Too bad cuz our son loves that stuff. I buy him a Hatch chile salsa at Trader Joe’s. My husband and I can’t do hot. I’ve always wished I liked hot because it helps your metabolism (and mine died years ago). Safe travels!

I spent much of my life in NJ, NY and now OR. Never heard of hatch chilies until I was in Albuquerque one September. I kept smell this intoxicating aroma and finally found out it was the chilies roasting. I brought a bag back home and thought I would be the only one on the plane with carry on chilies. NOPE almost everyone flying out of New Mexico that day was bringing them back.

Oh, another thing I’m missing by being in Tennessee! And chili ristras, too.

Oh Judy, you’re killing me! We grew up 30 minutes away from Hatch so you know we’re green chile addicts. We don’t find green chile anything here in NE Ohio. But seeing that roaster makes me believe I can smell those chiles roasting from here. We’re going to a family reunion in Missouri next month and I’m praying our NM family brings us a few bags of roasted chiles for the freezer … mmmmmmm There is nothing comparable to a true New Mexico chile and the ones from the Hatch fields are always the best.
