Staying in hotels is something I have a real hard time doing. I get in the bed and I have all kinds of thoughts about who slept there last night, how clean the bathroom is, whether naked people sat in the chairs. It’s really all I can do to stay in a hotel but sometimes . . you just have to do it.
One thing that bothers me that is easily solved – the lighting in the room. The lamps must all have 10 watt bulbs in them. Trying to sit and knit is right near impossible. I’ve started bringing my own light bulbs. I put their bulbs right by my keys so I can remember to retrieve my bulbs. So far, I’ve never forgotten them, or broken one.
Vince recently found these 800 lumens, LED and they were $1 each. I think it was at Dollar Tree. Can’t beat that deal and it will be so nice to have decent light in a couple of lamps on my next hotel stay.

Judy, I am so with you on the staying in hotels thing. It makes me crazy. Its why we have an RV. I have to practically clean the room before I can sit down. I hope you have a safe trip. I am half finished with wedge 3 on the Slow Curves Shawl. Hope you get some relaxing knitting time.

I’ve actually brought the general manager, desk clerk and owner of the hotel to my room for Show ‘n Tell while I explained they were paying people not to do their job. Then I was the one who supervised Housekeeping while my room was cleaned from top to bottom. I swear the next time I went back it was to do all over again. That was the last time there!

I’m with you on the lighting issue. I travel with either needlework or rug hooking and want good lighting. I’m one who brings decent bulbs or better lights for needlework plus a small fan for those claustrophobic bathrooms.

We stopped going to one hotel chain because of those “issues” so we now go to the higher end chain of hotels and so far so good. We always travel with our dog, usually pulling the camper behind.
I take pictures of how clean/dirty the room is and send it to their corporate office, usually with an apology and a refund if its dirty after I tell the manager. If its clean I tell the manager good job and show him/her the pictures. I also tell corporate if its nice and clean with pictures. Have gotten a freebie night at a hotel or two for that, sometimes even 1/2 off the room.

I have to say not one single one of those things ever crossed my mind … but now they will! LOL Yes, and if you try to get a bulb changed, they don’t have anything more than those dim ones. It’s impossible even to simply read in that light! I’ll have to look at our local Dollar Tree and see if those bulbs are available.

This is one of the reasons I want a travel trailer. I know how I clean. I always bring Lysol spray with us. Now I must find those light bulbs as it seems like a tomb or cave in most hotel rooms. And the other reason we have sweet Mavis to travel with us.

Since living in Denver area (in top 10 for bed bugs), I throw back the bedding and check it. My husband and sons make fun of me but I freak out at the thought. We always stay in nice hotels, but that doesn’t ensure they will be clean unfortunately. The older I get, the harder it gets so I’m with you!
