Vince is busy cleaning out boxes. There are tons of boxes that haven’t been unpacked so he’s going through all those, repacking, throwing stuff away — hopefully just the first process in getting ready to move again some day.
We hadn’t been married very long and were living in Kentucky and there was a lake somewhere in Indiana not too far away that was supposed to have great crappe fishing. Vince booked a fishing guide and rented us a cabin on the lake and we went for a weekend of fishing and fun. I took my sewing machine and stayed at the cabin and sewed while Vince and Chad went fishing.
They got their money’s worth that day. They caught their limit and then the guys in the cabin next to us caught their limit and gave them to us because they didn’t want to clean them.
We had more than one cooler of fish. The facilities had a little fish cleaning building which wasn’t too far from the cabin. It was already starting to get dark but I walked down there with Vince and that’s when he said “I don’t really know how to clean fish!” I said “I can show you . . did you bring an electric knife?” Nope . . he had a knife but it wasn’t a filet knife and it wasn’t very good. I tried showing him how to do it and whether on purpose or not, he was making a big mess out of those fish so I said “You go back to the cabin with Chad and I’ll clean these fish!” I think it was almost 3 a.m. when I finished.
Vince has never been a committed fisherman where Chad lives to fish. In fact, they’re having Addie’s birthday party this weekend and then leaving on Monday to go to Louisiana to fish for four or five days, then coming back home. Chad doesn’t use an electric knife. His fishing buddy in Louisiana always comments that he’s never seen anyone who cleans a fish and gets every crumb of meat off the bones and is further amazed that Chad doesn’t use an electric knife.

Ask Chad to do a U-tube video of how he cleans fish. We usually gut and clean them, but bring them back whole and grill them, but last week DH filleted them.
I’ve never heard of using an electric knife to clean fish.

I have never heard of using an electric knife to clean fish, either!. We always had a good filet knife and went from there. (I know how to do it, but I was usually the “fish scaler” as we left the skin on panfish when we cleaned them. We only skinned the catfish when we kept them.)

Never heard of using an electric knife, either. I always forget I even have one. Don’t remember ever using it for anything except turkey.

There are not many things I wouldn’t have done for Paul, but cleaning fish tops the short list. LOL I don’t eat them, so I won’t clean them. But you like fish, and you had a son and a husband who were proud of their catch. I’d be with the guys next door, if I caught any. “Here, you want these?” LOL

We use a Rapala filet knife. It’s electric & sharper than the electric knife one uses to cut the holiday turkey. In fact, it’s so sharp & dangerous I have a special pair of gloves. After learning to fish with my Grandaddy off Bob Hall pier as a little girl, yes I learned to clean fish too !!
