Chad has been sending me pictures of the bowls he’s been turning. As a mom, this makes me very happy on so many fronts. First, I love seeing how much he enjoys cooking and trying new recipes. It makes me feel like some part of me lives on through Chad. He began woodturning with Vince back when he was in middle school. Nicole’s dad is a cabinet maker so Chad has exposure to woodworking around him too. Second, I think everyone needs a hobby. Chad loves fishing and hunting but that’s somewhat seasonal and not something you can run out and do for just a little while when you get home from work. Well, Chad and Nicole can squeeze a fishing trip into a five minute break but I love seeing that he has something he can go outside and working on while Addie is out running around the yard.
There were a few years of middle school and high school where the last thing I would have seen Chad doing was being a great dad, cooking meals for the family, being determined that they would try to eat only meat that they harvested, and woodturning in his spare time. This is proof that we never stop praying for our kids!
A couple of years ago, Nicole’s grandpa gave Chad his old lathe. Chad worked on it a while and then bought himself a new lathe.
He’s been sending me pictures of bowls he’s been turning.
Seeing Nicole knitting and Chad doing the things he loves . . their little family makes me very happy!

Lovely bowls. My youngest brother-in-law once gave me a wood turned cookie jar he had made in shop class for Christmas. It was a beautiful piece, but the last thing you’d want to do was put cookies in it. He used black walnut and even after being finished it had a very strong smell that ruined any cookies put in it. It’s the thought that counts, right?

Maybe he’d make you and Nichole each one of those lovely bowls to hold your yarn! They are so pretty. He definitely is doing beautiful work…I think he could make some money on those!

These are absolutely beautiful! I think he could sell these and make a good bit of money on them. By the way, my brother said he bulldozed over a bunch of mesquites if Vince wants to come get them. Also, if they are big enough, they would be good for Chad to make bowls out of.

Rug Hookers would love those bowls for their snippets (end pieces of wool that is snipped off). I’m one of those rug hookers! That large one sure caught my attention!!!

I am so happy for you, Judy. Your son and his family are just what we all hope our children will be, and that Addie is cuter than anyone should be. =) Chad’s bowls are wonderful. Looks like you passed on some artistic gene there!
