While playing with yarn this morning, I wound the yarn for the August Camp Loopy project. I’ll be making Mixology and even though I haven’t read all the way through the pattern yet, I’m thinking there’s some blending but I’m not sure if it’s one stitch of this yarn and one stitch of that yarn . . like a basketweave or stripes. Well . . duh . . the pattern page says slipped stitches and colorwork so . . I guess there are slipped stitches and colorwork! 🙂
It’s all Madelinetosh Twist Merino Light.
Left to right: Antler, Patagonia, Harvest, Jaded Dreams and Snake.
Speaking of snakes, remember how many I killed inside the chicken coop last year? I think it was 16 but I lost track somewhere along the way. Guess how many I’ve seen in the coop this year? ZERO! How strange is that?
OK . . so some of the colors will be working together.
I think the Harvest works quite well with the Jaded Dreams and the Snake works well with the Jaded Dreams.
Also, the Antler will blend well with the Patagonia and even though it’s a bit hard to see, there’s some amount of gold in the Patagonia so I think it will be good also with the Harvest.
I have a week before I can start the August project so that gives me time to work on Casapinka’s mystery!

Hi, I am a novice knitter, mostly through YouTube and primitive, back-of-the-magazine instructions. What’s the deal on winding yarns? I wind skeins into a ball and now suspect this must be a knitting felony based on all your photos. Anybody else out there who can explain this? And what is the name of the winder thingie you use? Thanks in advance.

Whatever works for you is just fine. Winding 5 skeins of yarn by hand would have taken me way longer than winding with a swift and winder. When I first started knitting, I also didn’t have a clue about a swift and winder and kept thinking there had to be a better way. Winding one or two skeins wasn’t a problem but every now and then a dog would walk through or I’d just manage to make a huge mess. I wouldn’t want to knit without my swift and winder but if winding a ball by hand is working for you, no need to spend money on anything else.

Thanks! Now I know what it’s called, would never have guessed ‘swift’.

These will be really pretty together. Now I’m anxious for August to see your next project, but the mystery also sounded interesting!

All your snakes must have moved to my yard! I have seen more snakes this summer than I have in the last 5 years combined. At least none of them have been the venomous kind, and the worst one (biggest) was dead, so it could be worse. I don’t have any chickens, so they aren’t go after eggs. I can just take comfort in the fact they eat mice, etc.
